Here Is How Interconnected Manufacturing Is Across the Globe
Activity has been on a downward trajectory since early 2018
WS Journal Oct. 3, 2019

Global manufacturing activity contracted in September, the fifth time in as many months, and has been slowing since early 2018, with nearly every major economy taking a hit, IHS Markit data show.

“The thing that’s really most striking about manufacturing is the extent to which it is such a global industry that is really characterized by trade and value chains,” said Jason Thomas, head of global research at private-equity manager Carlyle Group. “Any product of any complexity is not produced in a single country really anymore.”

On Tuesday, weak purchasing manager’s indexes, or PMIs, triggered stock losses and fresh pessimism among economists that the U.S.-China trade war was affecting growth prospects. While the U.S. started seeing a manufacturing slowdown this year, the rest of the world has been struggling since last year.

Note: this was a very short article, so I just clipped the first half of it as a summary. It didn't analyze the stats, just reported them.
