Go To Pro Sports Games?

Last time we went to a pro-sports game was when we seen the Charlotte Hornets (NBA) play in Charlotte, NC. My wife got the tickets for free from the company she worked for there. Now, one thing I did notice, only a few 60 and above age men and women in the arena. In looking around with binoculars, I really felt like an old "Dad" or "Grandpa" there! When people ask us today, "do you go and see (whatever pro team) play", we say "nope". We tell them that tickets cost too much and we don't want cheaper tickets where we'd be sitting up by the roof. When we watch pro sports on tv, and the camera's scan the crowd, we don't see people our age there. Unfortunately, some of the younger crowd can drink to much and get rowdy.........just don't want to be around that!

Same goes for concerts. Cost is too high! Did go and see a performance by local symphony that done a John Williams concert (of movie themes). Now that was totally cool, and what it made it really nice, the main Star Wars characters came out on the stage while the orchestra was playing the Star Wars theme. After the concert, these Star Wars characters came out in the lobby for pictures.

So, do you go to pro sporting games/events anymore or ever did?
 

We don't go to sport games any more, did go to see some football games in the past, and hubby went to a couple of hockey games. Stopped going to concerts too. Nothing to do with our age, but we just don't like the large crowds, the parking situations, etc. The last few concerts we went to years back had too many people standing on their chairs and singing along with the band...really annoying when you're trying to enjoy the music you paid to hear.
 
Appears to me that some of these things do have to do with age.......LOL! I know when we were younger, large crowds, parking and how people acted at a concert wouldn't bother us. And, the people standing on their chairs and singing.........almost have to be expected unless the concert is at a nice venue. Back in 2001, we went to Laughlin, NV. for a Chris Le Doux concert at Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort Hotel & Casino. Everyone stayed in their seats/at their tables during the entire concert. Went to a County Fair concert and people were standing on their chairs, standing in the isles and a heck of a lot of noise going on (Paul Rogers/Bad Company) concert........didn't bother us, but that was 14 years ago. When I talk about "age" and sporting events, or even concerts, I'm talking about what we would accept 15-20 years ago and what we won't accept today at this older age.

Cost of tickets prevents me from going to any pro games and even if you could afford a tickets think about what a hot dog,beer will cost you once inside those stadiums.
 
Yes, I still do. My son & I usually try to go to one Broncos game a year and we make a fun week-end when we go. Tickets are pricier than before, but I've been lucky in the past few years to get online when they go on sale & get half price tickets. As far as old-timers in the crowd...there are a few. We always see some in wheel chairs, who obviously are seated at ground level. As long as I'm able...I'll continue going.
 
When I worked, I received a lot of free tickets, some I used and some I gave away to others, even strangers. I had a major league umpire on-board a flight that I was piloting and he offered me his tickets at the stadium in Los Angeles, if I would pick them up at "Will Call." I told him that I would accept them, but may pass them on to someone else and he was good with that. I gave him my name and he said that he would leave them for me in my name and if I passed them on to be sure and give the new owners of the tickets my name, or otherwise they would go to waste. A family came on-board and sat in coach. There was a young boy, maybe 11 or 12 in the family and he had a Dodgers cap on. I asked him if he was going to a game and his Dad said they couldn't afford it this time around. Before we took off, I took the Dad up to first class and introduced him to Jerry Crawford and told him the story that the son is a Dodgers fan, but not enough money to go to a game this time as I winked to Jerry. I said to the Dad, I bet Jerry has a few tickets he would give you. Needless to say, everyone was very happy with the outcome.

I do go to a few Phillies games, but I enjoy minor league baseball more. I also buy tickets through Stub Hub to go to the Steelers games, maybe a few times a season and before December, which is normally brutal in Pittsburgh.

Yes, I also agree. It used to be a lot of fun to go to a pro football game. I went to several Browns, Cols (Baltimore) and Steelers games since I was a kid and my Dad took me to my first pro game in Philly to see the Eagles at old Franklin Field in Philadelphia. In the 70's, when I lived in Cleveland, it, or I should say, there was always a riot when going to the Steelers-Browns games. Always plenty of action on the field and in the stands.

Now that I am older, I am careful where I sit. With football, I stay out of the end zones and in pro baseball, I try not to sit in the lower reserve sections. The parking is usually a mess and even worse when exiting. A lot if rude people makes it even worse. People always told me that if I wanted to be around rude people to just go to an airport. I tell them, maybe so, but if you want even ruder people, go to a pro football game. I go to Penn State college basketball games. I like it when their schedule calls for the women to play on Saturday and the men play on Sunday. My wife or a friend and I will go up to State College for the game on Saturday, go out and have a nice dinner on Saturday night and then go to the game on Sunday to watch the guys play. Great weekend.
 
There is a Dolphins fan club nearby that buy a section at the Miami stadium(35 seats) and its reserved for the seaon. The best part is they also hire a private bus on game days to take us there and back(2 hours). Last time I went,3 years ago, it was $75 for everything.
Somebody always bring a case of beer for everyone:D
