Enclosed in the envelope was a new one dollar bill. If you fill out the personal info at the end of the survey they will send five dollars. I threw it in the trash.

Yeah, I got one of those a couple of years ago. It looked like I would have to watch tens of hours of TV, and jot down everything I viewed to "earn" their $5....Like you, the $1 went to my wallet, and the rest into the trash.
