Got first pneumonia shot; on waiting list for new shingles

Last week I went to the pharmacy and got the first dose of my pneumonia shot. Get the next in a year. WOW...when he said my arm would be sore for a few days he was right. If you have ever had a tetanus shot, it is the same thing.
Then I asked about the new shingles shot. She said, "shall I put you on the waiting list?" I said OK. Turns out the waiting list is 8-12 months. Because of demand. She told me it took a long time for pharmacies to even start getting the vaccine in. Sho..if you are not yet on the list for that shot and you want it, you may want to check with the pharmacy
 

The waiting list for the Shingles shot may be due to legal issues. Many people who got the Shingles shot came down with Shingles soon after & there are many lawsuits & class-actions.

Is the pneumonia shot the Prevnar 13? I got that about 2-3 years ago. I also took the first one a few years before the Prevnar 13.

Yes it was. Pharmacist told me this was the first of the two doses. I need to go back NEXT August for the second.

I do not know. Just know the vaccine comes in a two dose thing. If memory serves, Once I get the second dose I should not need another. I have had pneumonia once in my life. That was definitely enough for me
 
I was confused by the names, so I contacted Walgreens where I got my pneumonia shots and they told me that I received my first injection, which is the Prevnar 13 in 2014. In 2016, I received the newest vaccine, which is the Pnuemovax 23. The lady told me that I have full protection. No more pneumonia injections are necessary.

I also did some investigating of the newest Shingles vaccine (Shingrix). The lady at Walgreens told me that because Shingrix is non live, there is no chance that the patient would get the disease. So, I wanted to make sure, so I called my doctor and his nurse called me back. I asked her the same question. She gave me the same answer. (Same as StarSong’s post.)
 
@911 Have you yeard any thing about the flu shots? I was hearing on the news that there would be a potential delay, as they had not yet determined the strain to protect against. But I am already seeing signs on pharmacies that they have the vaccine. I usually get mine in late September or early November
 
I got the new pneumonia vaccine today. I currently have a baseball sized, painful swelling at the injection site. Guess I'll report it to the doc tomorrow. Blah I keep telling them I keep having a sensitive reaction to the stuff they give me. This swelling isn't considered a severe reaction:eek:, but it is reportable, so tomorrow I will report 😫to the doctor's office as soon as they open.

"Baseball Sized?" I'd call that a severe reaction. Doesn't take a doctor; just takes anyone with eyesight.

What would you expect your doctor to say?

I know what you mean but anything that doesn't cause seizures or death isn't considered severe anymore. What are they going to do about it anyway? Draw a circle around it with a pen, tell me to take Benadryl, put cold cloths on it. Blah it effing hurts too. Grrr!

The truth. I have never known them to lie to me. No one got polio from the polio vaccine given by injection, did they? That’s because the polio vaccine by injection included the dead virus. The oral vaccine did have the ability to give the person receiving the dose the disease. The oral dose does contain weakened polio virus, but not dead.

Makes sense to me. Dead virus is dead virus.
