Gov. Cuomo offers "soft" reopening of parts of NY state

The Finger Lakes region, where I live is part of the soft repopen. Set in phases. First is Friday. This will include some construction projects, some "non essential" businesses. Good to hear, but I hope people still use caution. Progress will be monitored.

Cuomo opening
Let's hope phase one proceeds smoothly, with compliance and monitoring. Once upon a time, I camped and canoed on one of the Finger Lakes - for the life of me, I can't remember where.

I found this sub-link interesting, as it breaks down what is expected during phase one of the reopening: https://forward.ny.gov/industries-reopening-phase

Stay safe!

I'm very interested to see how this works compared to some other states.

Professional services are in phase 2, restaurants are in phase 3, entertainment in phase 4.

That seems very different from some other states opening restaurants and professional services in phase 1.

From what I have been able to read the minimum time between phases will be 14 days but the length of time beyond that will depend on the numbers of new cases, infections, deaths, etc...

I would want to delay restaurants as long as possible. We cannot wear masks when eating. Unless they limit the number of tables served at any one time
What I didn't see opening early was museums. That's something that my grand daughter wanted reopened, and it seems like a controllable place. Her husband wants concerts opened - to me, that is a horrible idea! Many of the parks and beaches that have reopened elsewhere seem to have big compliance issues with social distancing and masks - I expect that they may end up shutting down if the cases increase.

I agree with the sit-down restaurants and bar openings being delayed. There is no good way to keep people's mouths shut in those places!

Sure you can. I demonstrated the technique for friends today.
Lift the bottom of the mask up, take a bite, pull the mask back down.
Repeat for each bite.

Monica Lewinsky demonstrated a similar technique for....uh....
My friends are still laughing......

I am interested in how it goes, too. My niece is a hair stylist, and is anxious to get back to work, but still is aware that we need to do it safely

Our salons are still closed and I desperately need to get my hair trimmed. I think I'll be wary of going back, because there is simply no real way to maintain a safe distance when you're getting your hair done.

Same with nails. I don't need fancy fingernails, but my lower back issues make it almost impossible (and risky) to get in a position to cut my own toenails. I've used a nail place for that for 6 or 7 years, but the nails are getting to a point where I seriously need to do something about them.

Hi Butterfly - I was wondering if Medicare (if you are on it) would pay for you to have a podiatrist do your nails? To me, that might be safer.

I agree. I go to a podiatrist 2-3 times a year for a toenail trim. I have a scheduled appt later this month, but will have to check if it isOK to go or if I should reschedule. I am OK if I have to reschedule until next month. I do not have claws yet. LOL

My county goes to yellow on Friday, 5/22. Our Governor is using red, yellow, green to open. Red, still closed. Yellow, some can open, Green, Hallelujah! Everything is open.

I saw a story about one restaurant that had X's taped on tables where patrons could not sit. There was certainly that 6 ft distancing but I don't know how practical that would be for many other restaurants unless they stick with take out and serve indoors to those with reservations only.

Good point about the need for reservations - otherwise, problems are bound to occur.

Governor Cuomo announced that horse racing will be back and also the Watkins Glen Grand Prix. No spectators or concessions at events but some may be televised.

Tomorrow we will hear about any new or different restrictions/precautions for Memorial Day events across the state.

Well, a restaurant is one of those businesses with the highest expenses to keep it running. So, after forcing them to be closed for 2 months, they're expected to limit seating & limit paying customers?

all non life-threatening stuff here is postponed until at least July. I had some routine stuff scheduled and they've postponed twice now, new date is end of July.
