Four people were shot Friday evening at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in North Carolina, according to officials.

Three people were in critical condition and one in stable condition following the shooting in Concord, which is about 19 miles northeast of Charlotte, according to a statement from the city.

It wasn't immediately clear what led up to the shooting. Concord police are reviewing video footage of the event and speaking with witnesses, according to the city. They've asked anyone with videos or photos to share them with police.

Video and photos posted online show crowds of people fleeing, along with a street lined with emergency vehicles. It was unclear if police had identified suspects or a motive.

The event was advertised as the city's 28th annual tree lighting ceremony and was expected to feature Santa and Mrs. Claus, food trucks, the film "The Grinch" and fireworks, according to the city's website.

Add tree lighting ceremony to the list of occasions subject to violence: weddings, funerals, backyard parties, school reunions, etc. You fill in the blanks....

Apparently Chicago teens also believe in settling their beefs with the death penalty. At least 7 shot at/near a tree lighting ceremony. A second with in hours of this.

9 shot, 1 fatally, in shootings after Christmas tree lighting downtown Chicago

Seems to be blind rage which escalates confrontations in a hurry. If nothing else they should be tought learn to walk away and/or pick and chose their battles. They don't or won't even make good career criminals because they're too rash/reactionary and would be constantly be caught and arrested.

When I graduated from college in 1969 my draft board immediately reclassified me 1-A and sent me a notice to report for induction. So in order to get out of the draft I beat it on down to the Air Force recruiter and signed up under the delayed enlistment program which gave me "up to" 120 days before I had to go on active duty. The only job I could in that suituation was clerk at a convieience store and I had to lie to get that by saying I wasn't sure when or if I would be drafted.

It was the Dixie Minute Mart in Gainseville Florida. Back then they were only open from 7am to 11pm. There was no graveyard shift. But even at they they got robbed a lot. I remember reading their quarterly newsletter where it said they had had 12 armed robberys in the district in the past quarter. There were 43 stores in the district. So I crunched those numbers. 12 in a quarter was a rate of 48 in a year. For 43 stores. So if you worked there for a year chances were you were going to get robbed at gunpoint at least once, maybe twice.

And they did not give a crap about the employees. They had a policy that you were supposed to have no more that $50 bucks in the register at any time. That was to minimize loss in case of a robbery. If you lost more than $50 bucks when you were robbed that extra was coming out of your pay. So all day long you are supposed to be putting excess cash in the safe.

Which was a floor safe right behind the register. So you're working by yourself and you are supposed to keep putting away cash in this safe right behind the counter without any customers knowing what you are doing. Sure. And if you are robbed at gunpoint you were supposed to give the person only what was in the register which was supposed to be no more than 50 bucks. And if the robber tells you to open the safe we were supposed to lie to them and say we didn't have a key to it. All this for $85 bucks a week for 48 hours a week. That came to a $1.77 an hour.

Now if the US had insisted that only members of a "well ordered militia" were allowed to have firearms, then I suspect there'd be many fewer incidents of this nature.
That means "militias" would have to be stationed in every city in the U.S. One never knows where these shootings, stabbings and vehicular attacks will happen. National guard troops are on the ground in North Carolina, but not the town where this happened.

Isn't this just swell? Get your pals together, to attend a happy event, but bring your weapons so we can shoot or stab, or whatever other mayhem we can think of to spoil the event. It's a wonder civilized people get together publicly at all anymore.

My sister and her husband took me to that lighting event about 10 years ago. It was very festive. There was no violence, but I was scared by the crowd of thousands of densely packed people. You were unable to move through the crowd and always in physical contact with three or four others. You basically moved as the crowed moved you. I was afraid of a panic and trampling. It's the only time I experienced something like that. I encouraged my sister and her husband to get us out of there. It took a long time to move to an open edge of the crowd. I felt like the only one who was worried.
