Habits........

I swear too much, in normal conversation. I've tried to break that mother!@#$%&, but it's too @#$%ing hard for me to do, unfortunately. I was the kid who was always admonished to watch my mouth, when I met friends' parents, even back when I was a pre-teen.

Lucky Me, I never smoked & never did drugs! Don't think 1 glass of wine at lunch time is a sin so I'll keep doing it.
Not to exclusively pick on you but I can’t help notice all the people who proudly claim to use ā€˜no drugs.’ Many of them stating that they don’t want or need their senses altered yet drink alcohol.

Well alcohol IS a drug. It alters the senses.
The main difference is that alcohol is the ā€˜preferred’ drug of choice for the majority.

I’m certainly ok with that but a glass of wine at lunch is no better than a hit of THC. It’s just more socially acceptable.

Just saying! šŸ˜Ž

Hi Keesha. You are correct, alcohol is a drug & it can be a very dangerous drug. It is the drug now pushed by the government. Recently our government is also into the pot drug. There are hundreds of stores across Canada. When I meant I don't do drugs, I should have said I don't do the illegal drugs like cocaine, LSD or whatever. There is a huge drug business with drugs coming from Mexico & further south but that is because there is such a huge demand for these illegal drugs in Canada & USA. I wonder why?

Wonder why, no more: Drug use is increasing as the daily grind has approached nearly intolerable limits. We want to be sedated, want to become comfortably numb, as the world around us goes crazy.

Everywhere we look, violence increases, governments sell out their citizens, people do more horrible things to their fellow citizens, even including their own families! Who wants to be aware, alert, nerves on end, when dealing with such depressing stuff?

I understand the increase in hard drug use, and I sometimes wish I could simply follow the herd into their collective opium den, but something stops me from doing so, and always has, always will........

To answer your question would involve discussing politics which isn’t allowed here but basically it’s all about money. Alcohol is a dangerous drug and in 1917 it was prohibited and people rioted until the prohibition was lifted. Since it is the preferred drug of choice it brought in a lot of revenue, just like cannabis or pot is doing now.

This couldn’t be done years ago because pharmacists couldn’t patent it so didn’t know how to sell it. If they said it wasn’t as harmful as they first declared, then they’d have too much competition from others.

There always has been drugs crossing the border, including Mexican cartels and always will be. It’s called competition and will never change even when the laws do.

Anyway I don’t want to hijack someone else’s thread to discuss this. I just couldn’t help notice all the members who said no to drugs like it was a ā€˜no brainer’ yet down a few pints every night. They’re no better; just different.

I don’t do any illegal drugs either and rarely if ever drink. My main point being, we all have our preferences.

Right now I am reading a book called "Starbucked" by Taylor Clark. It was published in 2007. It's all about Starbuck Coffee stores. The author claims that coffee is a drug but if taken only 3 - 4 cups/day it should be harmless unless you are pregnant. The books tells us some very interesting facts such as that there are 6 new Starbuck coffee shops opening up each day. It also tells us that the standard cup of coffee used to be 5 oz but today the smallest Starbuck coffee is 12 oz & the strength of the brew has gone up. It's the "drug of choice" for most working people. Americans now drink so much coffee that scientists have detected caffeine in many of the nation's rivers, lakes and bays & even in treated drinking water.

Gee, treeguy64, I hear you loud & clear. What you have posted is pretty well on the ball with where our society is right now. Rather than the use of drugs I have chosen a different route. I play guitar & sing to relax, I listen to a lot of music from the 50s/60s that I have in my tape, record, CD collection, I haven't had cable TV for over 16 years which keeps me away from all those dumb commercials about things I don't need, I don't have a smartphone so I don't stand around all day trying to figure it our (only a flip phone) & the best of all I have moved out to a small town of 2,500 people where I don't have to worry about traffic, crime, drugs, home invasions & other things that people in the city seem to accept as the price for living in their "beloved" cities. I think my approach beats buying & using illegal drugs.

We should get together and jam. Bass guitar, vocals, aux percussion, thirty years in the biz.

letting people waste my time by saying yes to things I didn't want to do just to be polite.
This! I always hated the thought that I might be letting anyone down. now......I’m great at just saying, NO, or not interested. Sometimes that response gets the response back of, ā€œwhy not?ā€ And I smile and say, ā€œbecause I don’t want to!ā€

That's good Floridatennisplayer! I wish that more people had the "guts" to say no to things that they didn't want or didn't like. I think that is also excellent advice for young people who suffer peer pressure & get into trouble by trying so hard to fit in. Maybe it's easier for us older folks?
