Hackers Are Trying Something New (Again)

Thanks for these. I got a scam e mail claiming to be from the cable company stating I didn't pay my bill, which I knew I had. I didn't open it but just deleted. I searched online for the scam and hadn't noticed that the cable company puts their logo in their email and I hadn't noticed that the scam one didn't have it.

I don't have a smart phone but those scams are really ramping up.

Also got my cats off Craig's List as kittens and met the woman at a Walmart parking lot.

Great info, always be skeptical, don't ignore that 'gut' feeling. ;)
trouble is so many people see the header, it looks familiar, and they might not notice that it differs from the real genuine address... also with the second video the phone scam is a much more insidious update on the '' my son or daughter lost their phone scam that's been going around for a while)

Yes, a scammer's social engineering tactics transcend any software and go for the ultimate vulnerability...the person between the keyboard & chair. ;)
which unfortunately is a lot of us.... I like to think if I don't open anything that's not familiar to me, which generally is a good rule of thumb.. but with these scams it's important we check URL's because it can mean just one letter difference from the real one.. keeping up with these scammers is a daily battle...

The scammers are rampant on Facebook, hardly a day goes by where someone I know isn't getting their account spoofed. The purpose of spoofing(creating an identical account to a real person) is to spread spam or malware through Facbook messenger to a person's Friends. Editing FB account security settings so that "only you" can see your friends is a good first step. My wife showed me a questionable FB messenger message(see below), I told her to contact that person via voice or phone text in order to see if that was legit or a scammer...as her account had been spoofed a couple months ago.

You've actually not missed anything of value. I originally joined FB in 2009 to stay in touch with far away family members. Nowadays the time I spend on FB is just scrolling through media in my feed, some of which I'm interested in, and the rest being commercial garbage.
Exactly. Same here.
