Haddo House.

Recently Mrs. L and I treated ourselves to National Trust membership. I'm not sure if you have the equivalent in the US, but basically it's an organisation that buys and preserves historical or important properties for the public to enjoy. Our first outing was to Haddo house, home to the Gordon family for over 400 years. The name Haddo derives from the area of land that could be ploughed by 2 oxen in a day.

Queen Victoria and prince Albert stayed there in 1835 and planted two redwood trees in the garden. The royal bedrooms have been preserved and during WW2 were put to an interesting use. While many large country houses were used as military hospitals, Haddo house was used as a maternity hospital. Queen Victoria's bedroom was used as the delivery room where around 1000 children were born between 1939 and 1945.

Nice shot - looks like a lovely place. Had to Google for a location. Aberdeenshire - not a place I get to often. My Scotland trip this year in April is over the other side to the Ullapool area.

yes we too have a National trust membership... we've visited many Historical houses and castles over the years
