Half and Half

We all know the most contents are listed first. I' m looking to find half and half with cream listed first, milk second. I haven't found any but it does make me wonder how much actual cream is in a half and half container. This is an easy place to cheat. I wonder how many do and by how much? Just curious.

Drifter, I too wondered that, as I use half & half for my morning coffee. I took a quart of cream, and added a quart of whole milk, and then did a taste test. I could detect a small difference in taste, my mix was a bit richer, and here in Texas, I found it cheaper to mix my own.

I don't think any of the brands specify the ratio of cream to milk, and don't think I've ever seen cream listed first. But you can go by fat content to figure which brand has more cream. Horizon Organic seems to be the best as far as I can see, at 3.5 grams of fat. Lucerne, Land O'Lakes, Smith are at 3 grams of fat.

It pays to read the label. :)

I remember when I was a teen, and waking up early one Saturday morning, I went out the porch and brought the quart of milk in for cereal. It had a purple cardboard lid in it, like you find on a dixie cup. I didn't know that the cream was on top and just poured it on my cereal. It was so good! ....I heard about it later! :) I still enjoy mornings that have a purple lid on them!

Mmmm Meanderer! Never had a milk delivery that I remember, but we did have a free delivery from Royal Crest company as an intro, and the milk on top was super rich. Years back we used to buy extra rich milk from the supermarket, don't think they have that anymore. We quit drinking milk years ago, and use Rice Milk occasionally on corn flakes. But I still love cream, heavy whipping cream over fresh raspberries is very nice. I wouldn't mind using cream or half and half in my morning coffee, but I use so much, and it gets too cold. :coffee:
