Halloween costumes for pets!

An estimated 5 million will be spent this year to dress up Fido or Mittens. This seems crazy to me and iabusive to pets. So, if you do this explain yourself...

I'm sure you think I do.... but I don't.. No costumes for the cats or dogs.. However.. the dogs all have sweaters and winter coats.. The cats stay inside.. so no outerwear required..

Good. Sounds very reasonable. I had a sister that had a poodle and put little boots on their feet to go out in snowy weather and that gave some of us a chuckle...

Yes.. Our winters can be very hard on the pooches.. particularly my little 6 pound Shorkie.. And we do go out on walks even in the winter.. I don't have boots for them though.. I think I may try a pair for the little guy.. and for my ShihTzu as he goes out in the snow and cannot walk back.. we have to go after him..

My daughter doesn't put boots on her dogs..but she does dress them up in little costumes for the holidays..just for fun..they don't go out dressed in it, they have them on for an hour or so just around the house. ..more so the little dogs rather than the bigger ones...they look sooo cute.

Here's one of the little ones at Christmas.....he's a tiny labradoodle...only about 14 inches high...

Oh later on I'll have to upload some pictures from my camera. There's one shot that came out so sweet that the shelter where we got Callie from has it on permanent display. There's a party they used to have to raise money for hospice. It was called October Tails. I have to try to organize that again for next year. They would basically take over a park for the day with vendors, food and people and dogs in costume...photo ops with zombies, prizes and goodie bags. We have to start that up again.

I love Halloween. The first year I had Callie he was a hot dog and I was a witch. He gets cold easy so the puffy costume kept him warm and made him look hug worthy. It's true, especially if you have a naturally imposing looking dog. A silly costume and they're much more popular. Last year we were both ballet dancers. Poor guy had to check his manhood at the door. I sewed a pink human sized tank shirt to a tutu and he was so sweet. As an alternate for trick or treating...we chaperone a bunch of kids every year...he has a big comfy shirt that has glow in the dark " Candy Security" across the back.

I have to post some pictures tonight. Of course it's ridiculous, ridiculously fun!

I don't dress my dogs up, but the little girls next door like to put dresses and pearls on my Bonnie. She cooperates with good grace because she absolutely adores those little girls. She did draw the line at clamp-on hangy down earrings, though.

I was looking up October Tails pictures and discovered Callie's costume for next year...dog even looks like him:)
