Highly rated 19 year old chess player Hans Niemann, who recently beat world champion Magnus Carlsen twice in over the board tournaments, has announced a multiple $100 million lawsuit against Carlsen and his business associates for subsequent defamation of character and attempts to destroy his career. Many in the chess world are considering the Hans Niemann uproar to be the most exciting since the Bobby Fischer era many decades ago.

How a trial would likely proceed:
Judge: Mr. Oved please explain your client's view on this case;

Mr. Oved: Hans speaks for himself;
Hans Niemann: The case speaks for itself;

Magnus Carlsen: I resign.

A $100 million, is simply a ridiculous headline-grabbing figure. Magnus Carlson is reported to have a net worth pf around $8 million and various grand masters can apparently make $500k a year. Does Hans Niemann feel he's worth $100 Million?

From what I've read here, he's admitted to cheating on some on-line games as a junior, but denied any cheating in 'over the board' matches.
I'm not sure if there was any evidence of him cheating in the matches with Carlson. Maybe Carlson was just a bad loser.

I never heard of these two guys. So, I kind of wonder if that's not the true reason for this lawsuit. Publicity= TV contracts, etc. for their future games.
BTW, Mangus Carlsen is a great name for a chess wiz.

From the Complaint:

. Accordingly, Niemann asserts the following claims against Defendants:

(1) slander; (2) libel; (3) unlawful group boycott under the Sherman Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1, et. seq.;

(4) tortious interference with contract and business expectancies; and (5) civil conspiracy.

18. Niemann seeks damages in an amount to be determined at trial, but no less than One Hundred Million Dollars ($100,000,000).
