Happy birthday to Chubby Checker

Yes. His is kind of an interesting story. Another singer was supposed to sing The Twist, but was not available. They recruited Chubby Checker because his voice was similar to that of the other singer.

Shortly after that, he married a Dutch beauty queen. In the US, interracial marriages were unusual (or even illegal) at the time. They are still together.

His wife's last name was Lodders. Hence the song Loddy Lo.
 

Boy, do I remember The Twist. I remember the principal of the school where I worked and his wife doing it at a Christmas Party. Chubby made a lot of money with many dance hits. Here are some that you may or may not know: Limbo Rock, Pony Time, Let's Twist Again, The Hucklebuck, Loady Lo, Dancin' Party, Let's Limbo Some More, Hey, Bobba Needle and even Mary Ann Limbo. He sure was talented. So, he is 80 and Clint Eastwood is 88. My, my, where did the time go? Happy Birthday, Chubby!

I love the line at the beginning of "Mary Ann Limbo" about the pretty girl making the boys go "twitt, twitt, twitt."
Now, they wouldn't allow it because it's "politically incorrect." GEE!
