Has anybody posted the JFK near miss last week?

Okay I didn't know about these two incidents until a fellow member from one of the aviation forums e-mailed me the actual tower to plane conversations and I was like WTF. It was chilling to hear the sheer panic on their radios. Man, I mean man. Those red runway flight control lights were put in place after a massive crash of two airliners in the 70's that took almost 600 passengers lives. I never even knew about that historical tragedy that was and still is deemed the worst civil aviation disaster on record. If you or anybody else would like me to post those incidents please let me know either here or by PM.

Are you referring to the disaster on Tenerife in the heavy fog? I think KLM was to blame, but that's only my opinion.

Yes oldman that's the one. If you like I'll select up the JFK near miss especially the tower comms, chilling. A number of the flight tracking sites have the plotting images for the near incident. The JetBlue incident wasn't available because from "Ground control to gate" images are only tracked by video for the corporate airline dispatchers. The closest one can get to "Ground Control to ramp or gate is to listen to liveATC then select up the airport.

BTW: Haven't heard from you in a good while. We okay?

Doing fine, just keeping busy. I would be interested in hearing any ATC you have between JFK, Jr and ATC. Did anyone ever bother to ask why they believe he didn’t use the autopilot when he became disoriented? Did he have spatial disorientation and maybe that’s why he never thought to turn on the A/P?

I watch Air Disasters in the evening if nothing else is going on and I came to realize that a lot of the accidents before 2000 were caused by mechanical issues, however, some of those accidents caused by mechanical issues could have been resolved by the pilots, if they would have had more training. If your plane goes inverted (upside down) and you have enough altitude, say 35,000 feet, the pilot may have been able to right side up the plane, depending on what the cause was.

Over the years, the NTSB has done some very good work. They never close a case without finding what caused the accident. Airplanes today have just about everything covered that can go wrong. The U.S. hasn’t had a fatal plane crash since 2009 and that was mainly caused by pilot fatigue.

Okay Sully, I'll have the Stinkster do the research. I should post it by early afternoon. She says to tell you hello. She's enamored with you older pilots, I told that wont get her any free rides though.

I always thought the airlines should consider selling the planes they have sitting in the desert junkyards. Their responsibility would be that the plane has been gone over and passed airworthiness tests and then either put an asking price on them or have an auction. I would like to have one, but the maintenance costs would bankrupt me.

It would be interesting to see who would be buying them. Whatever they decide, it would be better than having them turn to dust in the desert.

One of the best features to be put on planes since the late 80’s is TCAS or Traffic Collision and Avoidance System. It has saved thousands of lives.

Runway incursions are also nothing new. I always thought they were mainly caused by poorly trained ground controllers. Planes getting their wings swiped by parked planes are caused by Wing Walkers that aren’t paying attention.
