They are celebrating Route 66 today and have a short video about it. You can also look up Route 66 and find all types of interesting information about it.
I did not know that it first opened in 1929. I thought it had opened after WW2.

"Get your kicks on Route66."

Yes Ma'am......

Sure do remember Andy Divine from the old cowboy movies. Have you ever visited Oatman and the roaming donkeys?
Yes. When we first moved to Kingman, we took a ride up there and had lunch in Oatman. We took the "twisty" route to get there but came home the opposite way. That twisty road almost made me sick and hubby could only go about 20 MPH....sometimes slower! Here's a picture:

I've probably covered half of it or more over the years, much of it on a motorcycle. I''m sure it would have been more fun back in the 40's, or 50's, or maybe that's just my nostalgic bent kicking in.

I love stories about Route 66.

In 1980, I hitchhiked across the country, almost exclusively on Route 90...the northern route.

Ever since, always loved stories of road travel....

I think that is why I always loved Arlo's City of New Orleans....

I never hopped any trains, but my buddy did. I did sleep in a boxcar once...but it was in the yard, not moving...

PBS has a series of programs "Route 66 Women: The Untold Story of the Mother Road"

Very good.
