Has anyone ever gone to a retreat?

I've heard of silent meditation retreats, but never been on one. I don't know if I could handle being with strangers like that. I can see it could be beneficial to step away from the merry go round of life.

Back years ago people used to go to 'health farms', fasting and so on. Do people still do that these days and have you ever considered silent retreats yourself?

I've been to a couple of management retreats. A few of the other managers were a little snobby when they learned I hadn't attended or have a college degree.

I came face to face with the manager of purchasing & he actually thanked me for proving him wrong when I didn't follow purchasing protocol.

All in all the experience was worth what the CEO intended.

I've never been to a retreat. Several years ago, Muslim women went on a retreat but I didn't go. I had stopped driving by then and I wouldn't have wanted my husband to drop me off. Also I probably wouldn't have known any of the "Sisters" there.

I live alone so when I feel the need for a retreat I just go home. 😉🤭😂

I did attend several work related retreats but never a spiritual or healing retreat.

I would prefer to create my own retreat by renting a secluded little cottage for a week or two.

That was a truly good manager, who makes people feel part of the team.

I have been to a few retreats over the years. The first one was good but I didn't like sharing a br with another female. I like my privacy.

The next one was better...in the south on a nature trip. Semi quiet and hiking, cooking, swimming. More of a relaxation/meditation.

The third one was the best. Silent. Meditation. Yoga. Organic vegan diet. Massage. Chanting om with a monk led singing bowl. Chanting is sooo relaxing.

I also went on a horse therapy weekend retreat some years ago and had a really good time with the horses and some people. I love horses so for me to ride is a real treat.

I've been to a yoga retreat at Kripalu in Massachusetts, many years ago. Not silent except in the cafeteria which I appreciated. I enjoyed the whole experience. But now, living alone, as someone else said, I don't really need to "get away" like I used to from my kids, work, and thousands of demands on me.

I went to a Catholic school, and we had to go on a couple of retreats. We spent the whole day praying in the nun's convent. We were about 14 years old. On walking through the grounds, we thought it was quite funny to see the nun's underwear hanging on the line. Big bloomers. We had to read religious books, and I still don't know why we had them. Maybe it was meant to cleanse us. Oh, and by the way we weren't allowed to talk for the entire retreat. Still scratching my head.

I went on a religious retreat also when I was 14 and it was anything but holy. I had a blast. I did no praying or reflecting, Lots of kissing because I met a cute boy there who liked me and ended up writing me love letters all winter.. The guitar mass was nice. If I were still 14, I'd go again. It did me good. :giggle:

Have gone on three women's retreats in 50 years.
The last one, I encountered my first rabid abortion subject speaker.
She said she was a Christian and her definition of Christian, does not exist in my mind.
I will let her and Christ discuss her issues some day. :ROFLMAO:
