With Memorial Day coming up the cops up their search for drunk drivers but it dawned on me that I have never heard anyone say anything about someone getting pulled over for texting while driving.

As of last September here in Texas its against the law to text or use your cell phone while driving. You can use a hands free device to talk on the phone but you cannot text while driving.

Use of the phone while driving (even sat at a traffic light) in the UK for either text or speech will get you a fine or even a ban.

Second thing the police do (the first is a breath test) after a crash is forensically download your phone!

Texting while driving is against the law here but some people still do it and I have never heard of anyone being charged.
I think it is every bit as dangerous as driving after a few drinks. Why people take a chance and do either one is beyond me.

No, I haven't. Sadly I have seen several fatalities reportedly caused by texting, though.

With all the new gadgets and touch-screen stuff built into newer cars, it is terrifying to be on the freeway these days. Distracted driving is at an all-time high.

My husband got a citation for being on his cell phone a number of years ago. I`m pretty sure he was talking though, not texting. Here in California it is not an arrestable offense though, just a citation will be issued. And a point on your driving record.

Around here, it is against the law for someone under 21 to text and drive. However, the cell phone rules while driving are so ambiguous that they might as well be scrapped. I have Never heard of anyone around here being stopped for using their cell phones while weaving all over the highway. About the Only time we hear of any cell phone/driving related activity is when one of these cell phone addicts causes a major accident...and then, little seems to be done in the way of increased penalties, etc. Drunks are far less dangerous...as they are usually only on the road later at night, especially on weekends....whereas the cell phone dummies are present 24/7.
