Has coconut oil helped your allergies?

For years I have had seasonal allergies and I'm allergic to my cat. I couldn't take anything that would help because of the side effects. I purchased coconut oil about 5 weeks ago for other reasons and have been taking it daily since then. For the last several weeks, I have noticed that my allergies are better and I haven't taken anything except coconut oil. I can't remember going this long without having to take something and I was just wondering if it was possible that it could be the coconut oil helping them? It may be "wishful thinking" but I hope it's true. Time will tell I guess. Has it helped you with allergies?

I've been taking coconut oil for several years now, not everyday, but often. I always have a jar on hand now. I have had seasonal hay fever since I was a kid, and it's gotten much better with age. I can't pinpoint that coconut oil is what helped, because I take so many various supplements at any given time. But, since coconut oil is anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, I wouldn't be surprised that it helps with allergies and sinus inflammation that result. It's beneficial for sinus infections, so likely good for allergy symptoms. https://www.earthclinic.com/sinus-infection/coconut-oil.html

Coconut Oil - A Natural Antibiotic

In contrast to typical treatments, coconut oil actually relieves the condition. With its variety of beneficial properties, coconut oil is often considered a natural antibiotic and is an especially effective treatment for sinus infections. Organic virgin coconut oil is the best type of coconut oil to use in this treatment and is readily available in most healthfood stores and over the internet.
How coconut oil works:

Coconut oil is one of the unique foods that can actually be characterized as a "superfood." This food contains a distinctive combination of fatty acids that give it exclusive medicinal properties. When digested, coconut oil forms lauric acid and monolaurin, two compounds that are effective at killing harmful pathogens including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. As such, coconut oil can eliminate the underlying cause of a sinus infection without harming the natural balance in the body.
How to use coconut oil:

Coconut oil can be used in a variety of ways to treat sinus infections. Adding a tablespoon to tea or coffee and drinking it is one method. Likewise, the oil can be swished in the mouth and spat back out using an oil pulling method.

Finally, the oil can also be used as a nasal rinse by using a dropper or neti pot. To use this method, the oil must be in its liquid form. Adding the oil to purified water with salt and/or baking soda is also effective for rinsing the nasal passages.

Many common treatments of sinus infections can actually lead to worsening of the condition. Coconut oil, however, naturally eliminates the infection, soothing the sinuses, and relieving inflammation as it does so. Interesting... I had not heard about adding it to a sinus rinse. I use a sinus rinse but use the squeeze bottle instead of the Neti pot and mix my own salt/baking soda in tap water treated with a Steripen purifier. I might try that.

Thank you SeaBreeze for this link. I normally have my coconut oil in the early morning hours. When I first got up, I was a little stuffy this morning, which is normal. But, since I had my coconut oil, I can breathe so much better now. I am starting to clear up again! The main thing that caught my attention yesterday was the fact that I could taste my food. For many years, I have been unable to taste what I eat due to my allergies. I went to the doctor and they did all kinds of tests and confirmed it was due to allergies. I didn't want to see an allergist so I have been putting up with it taking what I can occasionally which hasn't been much due to the side effects. You can imagine how surprised I was yesterday to be able to taste again! As I said, the coconut oil is the only thing that I'm using that I haven't been before. Whatever it is, I hope it keeps it up!

My Doctor recommended it for persistent scalp itch. I apply it liberally to my scalp after shower and rub it in then wipe the excess off on my bath towel. Works for me.

I'll try it internally when my seasonal allergy's start.
