I was also told the same 8:00 pm rule and I've always abided by it.......for the most part.
Does the 'rule' still apply? I honestly don't know. At 72 years old I'm out of touch with a great many currently accepted social customs and taboos.
But I'd rather not receive calls after 8:00 myself so I've resolved not to call anyone else after 8:00......except for some extreme need.
No... 9pm is my cut off time to make a phone call.. but in any case, if I want to actually talk to someone these days I always text first to see if they're available to talk...
For me, it depends on the person and the situation.
Iām usually up most of the night and welcome calls from the people that I care about at odd hours although most of my conversations are through Facebook messenger.
Cellphones have made it much easier for me to see when people appear to be up and active on Facebook, I often use that as a guide when making a call or contacting people using messenger.
We pick up - or not, depending on the call display on our phone. Most are robo-calls that go straight to the answering machine. Not so surprising that very few messages are left.
Our rule was 9:00 PM. Mostly the calls I get these days are from scammers and they donāt bother about what time it is. They just call when the auto dial brings the number up.
Most of my friends and neighbors text. The one Neighbor will generally text on the later side of the night, but she is young and works. She generally texts me to check in on me and see how Iām doing; I donāt get offended. She loves my horses and I love her baby ducks, which sheās got about a dozen of the little cuties by now.
Someone gets a phone call and cuts you off mid sentence; "Excuse me, I have to see who it is. It might be important. You and I are just having a conversation, but this is a phone call."
There is no rule about that. Why should the time of day make any difference?
How late I call depends on what I know about the person I'm calling. One friend is always up until 10:30 - 12:00 PM, so if I happen to be up at 9 PM, I know it's okay to call.
As for me, I usually put my phone on Do Not Disturb around 8 PM, and it won't ring unless starred contacts call. For the most part, starred contacts are family, who would only call late at night in case of an emergency.
