I recently agreed to take my granddaughter and her children to see the Golden Spike National Park in Utah. The problem is, I let her pick the date. Sigh. I didn't realize there was going to be a major celebration on the date she chose-May 11. Normally, it's a pretty boring place.
Before, I knew about the celebration I called my daughter to see if she and the family wanted to come. Yup. Then I called my son. He said they had opened the railroads tracks to 4 wheel drive vehicles and they were already planning on taking that drive.
But since the whole family is going to the celebration, he agreed to go for a limited time, before the drive. Today I went on line and read about the celebration. The state is sinking 2 million dollars into this three day deal. So instead of an in and out affair, it's a stay and look at everything. Sigh. Plus you need a parking ticket.
I asked my son if he knew about the parking ticket. Nope. Good thing we are going Saturday, Friday is sold out. Will have to buy our ticket today. Parking is in dirt fields, hope it doesn't rain. Had already planned on picnic lunch, glad I did. There will be food trucks, food trucks are expensive.
I get the family all together for a simple quick outdoor function and a picnic that the Girl Scout great granddaughter will earn a badge for. Instead of a family get together, it's a major celebration with live music, trains, speeches, crowds, outdoor potties, and a dang long afternoon.
How did I get myself into this? Lol.
