Have you ever belonged to a Book Club ?

One of my neighbours is starting a Book Club where members take turns to choose a book which everybody then reads and discusses at a leter date

An avid reader, I was thinking of joining, but I'm not sure I would like books chosen for me, if I wasn't keen I know I wouldn't read it, kinda defeats the object...

Has anybody else been a Book Club member, care to share your experience ?

Yes, and I lasted only a few months. All female except me. Old historical type novels only. I did not like the books selected but read them anyway. Then I recommended a classic Flaubert novel, one of my favorite
novels, and none of them liked it. After that, the leader gradually stopped sending me updates and dropped me. I think they preferred an all female group.
My reading tastes are picky and I will not join more groups. Of course, you can join an online group.
