I have. I was afraid of pregnancy and never would have planned one. My first husband, my son's father told me the night he got me pregnant! We weren't married at the time. Between not being a happy camper and those hormones kicking in, I treated him pretty badly during most of the pregnancy. But I started reading to my baby when I was about 5 months. When he was born, the nurses said he was the prettiest baby they'd ever seen. In fact, I could hear people oohing and aahing when they lined the babies up in the hallway, after everyone got their baby except me. I thought maybe something was wrong with him! Anyway, through all the trials and tribulations (he was a very sickly child for the first few years of his life), he has turned out to be my biggest blessing. Not only is he a great, loving, caring, trustworthy son, he's saving me thousands of dollars on studio time because he's also my studio engineer.
His father and I married. I had high hopes that we would work out but when I realized he had gone back to his old lawless habits, despite promising to stay away from that life, I was devastated. I kicked him out very shortly after we were married. It's one of the best things I ever did for myself and my son. It showed me how strong I could be and helped boost my confidence.
I took a job with the city that was paying $1,001 less per year than a job I also had lined up working at a county agency. I took the city job because I could walk there, walk home for lunch and my son's (future) school would be right around the corner from work. I wound up being offered a better position in the field (by three different supervisors) and finally decided opportunity would not knock a fourth time. I was bored silly doing clerical work and had learned the public health reps (field workers) jobs. I put my fear of driving behind me and got my license. I worked the new position for a couple of years and wound up transferring to state payroll doing investigative field work. The state and city had the same pension system. I wound up making almost 3 times what I was making as the unit secretary and those two factors allowed me to retire early. I doubt I would have had the same opportunities had I taken the job that initially paid $1,001 more.
