Have you ever had- unidentifiable melodies...

Every so often, usually when I am in a "listening to music" mood, a mysterious little 'clip' of a song, usually a part of a melody invades my mind. The feeling of frustration is ON. Not really being able to grasp 2 or three words, the artist, the genre, even the language...muy frustrante!

Would you name a few of those for us, so i could see if i recognize the titles and remember the melodies?

I hear a song in my dreams shortly before I wake up and when I wake up the song is still playing in my head. I actually enjoy that.

The part of a song that will come to mind for me, is the 'Chorus'.
Since it is repeated many times in a song, it's the part that will stick in my mind.

If I can recall three or four words from the chorus, I'll type them into the search bar on YouTube.
I usually get enough 'hits' to find the song I'm looking for.

What is harder for me is a collection of notes in songs without lyrics.
Usually if the memory persists, I'll sit down at the piano and work on the notes.

Works sometimes and if it doesn't, it's fun to kill some time working on a personal mystery.

I sometimes "hear" music but I kinda' doubt that it's quite the same thing that you're referring to, @Nathan.
Can I ask... do you hear the music prior to you actually having music on or after you've turned some music on?

Just wondering if it's you thinking about music (in general) or perhaps you (subconsciously?) partially identifying one piece of music while listening to another?

I keep at trying to play that small clip with faith that it will eventually come to me. It usually does become something more. Usually a small lesser known part of the lyric where I can search google.
What blows my mind more is when a full song comes to mind that I haven't heard in over 40 years or more.

Here's one. What made me think of a song I haven't heard since 1972?

I think that while listening to music my brain makes an "association" with what's being listened to currently, to similar songs & melodies .
