Yep immediately this comes to mind

When I was pregant with my first child... I was very concerned about the impending birth...as a first time mother.

I;d heard many ugly stories.. but I was told by doctors, and friends, ''its different now''.. doctors don't let you suffer in pain. there's all sorts of painkillers available.. no-one suffers during childbirth now

OH Boy were they wrong.. it was such a shcok to me because I believed them so I went into hopsital im Labour.. thinking it was all going to be well controlled..

Instead I suffered a 3 day labour.. and the nurses who barely came into the labour room the whole 3 days telling me as they pointed to cylinders nearby..''we could give you gas and air but we've run out''.... the pain was horrendous from saturday afternoon, until Tuesday morning when I had a natural birth , after they sliced me open, and followed with 57 stitches..

From that day to this..I have never believed anyone who says ''It's different/better now ''

Yes, every time my baby sister moved back in with her abusive ex.

It would be "different" for a few weeks, maybe even a couple months, and then it wasn't.

That went on for like 5 years. Wait....oh man, it was close to 10 years. Yeesh.

We all tried to help her. She finally ended it with him, but it was major drama the whole time. tbh, I think she thrived on the drama.

I heard many vacant words like that from my daughter. From time to time, she had a new man or a new address, but never any enduring change in her cycle of self-destructive behavior and broken promises. I don't think she ever understood that for real change to work, it had to be something she wanted for herself, not something she should do to please me, or somene else.
