Have you ever wondered what is lurking on library books you borrow?

I borrowed several books today from our library and looking at the plastic jacket on one of them I wondered how many germs are these books harboring. I got out my trusty Lysol bottle and paper towels and the photo shows what came off of just one of them.

I've been guilty of laying them on my kitchen table from time to time and my hubby always put the DVD's there until he brings them down to our TV room.I wipe the table after we eat. Now I will do it before we eat and hopefully remember not to put the books and DVDs on the table at all.

Makes me love my Kindle even more.library book (800x600).jpg

That's interesting, I've never given it a thought but it does make sense.

I do try to limit the items that I handle when I'm shopping since my PCP told me that certain germs like the flu can live on hard surfaces for 15 minutes to as long as 24 hours.

I never gave it much thought, but I guess it's like grocery store cart handles.

But keep in mind library books are put on car seats, floor, tables, into book bags, lockers, on tables, counters, desks, etc. The world is full of germs, even from people who think they're clean and germ-free.

Never thought about it until now....

Coincidentally I visited the library for the first time in years a couple of weeks ago (I get my books from charity shops, which would likely carry more germs) and have been stuck at home for a week with a bad cough, cold and sore throat...:unhappy:

That really is gross Ruth. :(

I don't go to my physical brick and mortar library any more. I get all my library books virtually through the wonderful Library App on my phone. I can search by title, author, subject, fiction, non-fiction etc., read descriptions, excerpts, put books on hold, read on my phone, tablet or computer. Much more. It saves me time, which is at a premium for me between work and my busy social life. But till now I hadn't considered that it might also be saving my health!!

I like books. I mean proper books printed on paper with proper covers. Mrs. L mostly reads books on her tablet, but I prefer a physical book. I mostly buy secondhand books from charity shops. Some I keep, some I recycle. The nearest I've come to being injured by a book is when one fell on me while I was fetching it from a high shelf. I hope it had no germs on it!

Just read recently they can be a source of bed bugs, makes sense if you think about it...
Thankyou,Amazon for the Kindle:)
