Have You Had the Flu Yet This Season?

I keep hearing on the news about how many people are getting sick from the flu this season. We haven't had the flu and we didn't get a flu shot. Have you had the flu this season, and if so, did you get a flu vaccine? :winter2:

The hubby and I never get the flu shot and haven't gotten the flu. We usually stay away from crowded stores and malls this time of year and when I go to the grocery store I use the wipes they provide for the handles of the food carts. When I come home I wash my hands really will and keep food bags as well as my pocket book off the kitchen table.

Sounds good everybody! I use those wipes on the shopping cars too Ruth whenever they're available, and wash my hands as soon as I get home before I do anything else. It seems to help a lot. I rarely go to malls, but I do go to supermarkets and places like Walmart a lot. I just try to keep my distance if I see someone coughing or sneezing a lot. My next door neighbor is a younger lady with a small boy and she said that she, her husband and her son were having flu-like symptoms last week. I think when you're around kids a lot, you're more likely to catch a bug.

i don't know if I had the flu or not or just a real bad cold.

I didn't have a fever, so I assume just a cold.

Could not stop coughing that dry hacking cough.

The only thing that would stop it was a bit of whsikey in syrup.

Southern Comfort worked the best.

I haven't had the flu yet and I did get my annual flu shot.

I think my biggest defense against the flu is that I'm alone most of the time. The second thing could be that I don't handle or touch things any more than I have to. I notice when I'm out shopping that many people need to pick up and put down several of the same item before they make a decision. It doesn't seem to matter if it is oranges or teacups they just feel the need to pick them up and examine them.

This weekend I'm off to a big antique show and that is usually where I catch a cold or the flu. Thousands of people in tight quarters coming into contact with each other in a relatively short period of time. Also I've read that the flu virus can survive on hard surfaces for up to 24 hours so I will be sure to do a lot of looking and very little handling of the items.

Our college student grandson recently had a bout and he and his family share the home with us. We both had our flu shot last October (as usual) and haven't had a problem - - - -yet! :)

No flu or shot this year..I do worry about it, I have COPD and Cardiovascular problems..I am staying out of crowds!!!

No :fingerscrossed:. It's been quite a few years since I had the flu, can't even remember the last time. I used to get the flu shot too, but haven't in years.

Just curious... did you go a doctor and set in a waiting room (with others that might be there with the flu to see the doctor for a prescription) or go to a pharmacy that gives them?

I usually get it at the pharmacy but this time I was at the Dr. for a scheduled follow up anyway, so I just got it there. To be honest, there was a 30 minute wait time at Walgreen's last week and I couldn't wait. There was hardly anyone at the Dr. office yesterday so I got lucky!

I do not recall ever having the flu. Had Pneumonia a few years back though. And I get a shot every year. When I worked, it was because of the nature of my work, sometimes with medically frail people. Now, just because I can.

The news is sure pouring it on about how widespread and potentially serious this year's flu is in the continental USA... is it time to wear a face-mask when out shopping?

I got the "high dose" flu vaccine and did get the flu. It was only a 24-hour thing, but it was 20 hours of Hell. I had it coming out of both ends. I hadn't been sick like that for years. Thankfully, it was one day and gone. I had heard that this year's vaccine was not as potent as years past. If that is true, maybe that has something to do with it. It was really strange. Once it was over, my fever of 103° broke and all of a sudden, I felt like I had never been ill.
