have you tried those meal delivery services?

As a Christmas present this year our son gave us a gift of some home delivery from ..... Hello Fresh.....
we just finish our first three meals sent.
They were very easy and fast to make.
The only item is my husband and I usually had larger portions. I think it is a good way for us to work on portion sizes.
I am not sure I would continue after our gift card amount is used up, but it is a good product.

My parents were getting something. Don't know which company. Mom said there were too many spices and the vegetables would burn and still not get cooked. They found a different one they seem to like. That way they can still enjoy the cooking without the prep.

I tried one. Freshly's, I think. I told them when I placed the first week's order that delivery had to made weekdays before the gate closed and waited all day on the day it was supposed to be delivered but it didn't get here. Next morning I called them and they said they'd check it out and call back. This went on for two days, and at 9pm the second day, hours after the gate closed, I called to cancel the order and it arrived during the call. The delivery person had a gate code. Okay, that's cool, but my food sat around somewhere for 2 or 3 days. So, the Freshly's lady said for me to open the box and check if it's still cold, she'd wait. It was ice cold and the ice-packs were still mostly frozen, so I accepted the order but said I wouldn't be reordering and the Freshly's lady said she'd refund my money. That was nice, but the food was very mediocre and the portions were far from generous. I can get the same packaged meals from the local grocery and deli for around the same price and it tastes pretty much the same.

I won't do meal delivery again.

I am wondering if Jeni and Murrmurr's are the same company? I wanted to try Hello Fresh but would like to know if its the same company that murrmurr tried.

they are two different businesses .... i just checked ..... there are many many that jumped into this idea ....
Again, I am not completely sold but am enjoying the gift from my son. Items as So easy and the 3 we had we quite tasty and the recipe card will make it possible for me to make on my own if I want.

I’ve been tempted, but the portions look very small to me. Guess I’ll pass for now.
they are smaller then my normal but depending on what meal you chose can make a difference ...... we had two that i supplemented meals with some french bread so hubby would not be looking at me like "is that it?"

the pasta one we chose filled us up just fine.

The two companies I priced out were too much for something I have to cook myself, IMO. I’d rather order from a restaurant.

Both my DDs use one sometimes. The one DD is a mediocre cook so her family loved the meals. The other is a great cook but likes having prepped meals when she can’t get to a restaurant.

Yep, we've been Lite 'n Easy devotees for quite a few years. Joined initially to lose weight (it does work) and stayed for the convenience and the taste. I love their food and with over 50 dinners to choose from, not to mention the breakfast and lunch menus, it never gets boring.

It is a little expensive, but there is less waste, and we aren't eating leftover roasts for a week. So swings and roundabouts.

sounds like an expensive tv dinner if you ask me.
They are restaurant quality meals....... super simplified......... I probably would not have done it if we did not get this trail of about 12 meals as a gift.

The average is about $11-12 a meal so that would be cheaper then ordering out for similar dishes.......but yes we could cook other items cheaper per meal.
I like the sauces they teach you to put together.
Also not having to buy a spice or something I would only need for one or two recipes etc.

next delivery is
cherry balsamic pork with green beans and thyme roasted potatoes
duck a l'orange with arugula salad and garlic mashed potato
steak with roasted garlic pan sauce/ asparagus and mashed potato

They send all the produce/ meat spices/ etc and step by step instructions.
last weeks selections were
chicken tika masala with basmati rice
chicken sausage rotini in a cream sauce
and firecracker meatballs with jasmine rice and roasted green beans

if you enjoyed them and feel you got your money's worth you could try it and if you don't like it you could just tell them to buzz off. they have fresh meals like that at the dillons supermarket here (aka kroger) but i don't feel like cooking right now and i'm never home to receive deliveries. it would likely get stolen.

I tried a few of them and really enjoyed the meals but I found them too expensive. And we are a family that spends a lot on groceries but even we found them too dear.

but the kicker that down right cheesed me off is how difficult it is to cancel once they have you signed up. I was disappointed to say the least you have to promise to buy so much each week (subscription) to begin with. Let me order as I wish.

That is a marketing tactic they all seem to use and it just disgusts me.

Never again.

I ordered Hello Fresh last Christmas as a gift for my daughter and son in law as she had spinal fusion surgery scheduled in January.
She canceled it simply because son in law is a big eater and she knew from previous experiences their portions are small.
We had no problem getting a refund, in fact it was in my account the next day.
I have been tempted because simply stated, I don’t like to cook.

One DD said they quit ordering because of the expense. One son still lives at home so they have to order the meals for 4. She’s now going to try Epicure. Apparently they have pre-measured packets for meals but you have to buy the chicken, etc. I don’t know the details.

I know my sil tried Hello Fresh and she like it but I am not interested. It is a convenience and pricier that cooking yourself. It would be good if you need a break from doing all the cooking (like I do). I have ordered a meal kit from the grocery store and it was fine but again for the price I can make it myself cheaper.
