Haven't received any snail mail in a week

Not even third class. I was talking to a friend on the phone the other day and she said she was at the post ofice around 2:30 pm and the window was closed. They are supposed to have window hours from 2 to 4 pm on weekdays. She went the next day and asked abut it. The clerk said he's the only one working there right now and he has to sort the mail, be at the service window and drive the mail truck for rural deliveries. He just doesn't have time to handle it all.

Address a letter to someone, anywhere but be sure and use yours as the return address.
Don't put a stamp on it.
It may take a day or two but it should be returned to you with a notation stating,

That way you'll know that at least some mail is being delivered.
It's unusual to not receive anything but this method will be a test.

You get 3rd class mail ??.. well not this week obviously.....but seriously..3rd class mail, what's the difference between 3rd and first and second... does it mean the postie whose at the bottom of the class gets to deliver it ?

I used to get those "Easter Seal" stamps from the organization. I'd send off letters using them as postage. Out of 200, got back 4-5....😇😇😇

2nd -4th is driven, first class flown.

so what's the difference between 2 and 4th ?

here in the UK we have 2 classes... First ostensibly means delivered next day.. and 2nd delivered more than one day ...but despite there being a difference in the price of the stamp, usually if we post a 2nd class letter it will still arrive just as quickly as a first..

Third class - also known as bulk or junk mail.

Another day - no mail. I did see the mail truck on the street. By now I would have received the local trade paper, if nothing else. The local PO closes at noon on Saturday and it's also a long holiday weekend and they'll will be closed until Tuesday, so I can't make any inquiries until then.

The same thing has started happening here where it seems like the post office just randomly decides not to deliver the mail that day. I receive the Informed Delivery email feature from the post office which tells me what mail to expect in the box each day. But there will be no mail at all that day despite the email notification that there is.

It’s not just me it happens to. My neighbor who always gets mail will check with me to see if I got mail. Never fails, same day, neither of us had mail delivered.

It seems the USPS ,which was always the most dependable and trustworthy of the government bureaucracies, is slowly devolving. Along with our country’s roads, bridges, dams, water systems and other infrastructures. (But that’s a different topic, didn’t mean to go off thread)

In the US we have amazon prime and amazon. The first is kind of fast, and the second is when they get around to it. Somehow, the Postal service fits into it, but exactly how remains a mystery.

The USPS has been having finance troubles for the past decade. The cost of stamps has doubled in recent years, and it's almost cheaper to send a package via UPS or FedEx. Several smaller rural post offices have closed in recent years.
I save our Junk mail that has "postage paid" return envelopes, and send it back to those senders with a blank piece of paper enclosed....that way these "senders" have to reimburse the postal service.
