Before I went to physical therapy (twice a week, $35 co pay each visit) I applied to the hospital PT was affiliated with and got financial assistance. It paid co pays for all my therapies, so I paid nothing out of pocket.
Also got it when I went for my hip replacement surgery....paid for the entire surgery. I did have to pay for my PT there as my financial aid did cover the surgery.
It also paid for my cataract surgery. And you, the patient do not have to pay back any of co pays
So, if you have a major medical procedure planned, and do not have medicaid, check it out

Wow, I wish I'd known this. In 2023 I had to pay nearly $7,000 for cataract surgery in ONE eye, and that was AFTER insurance. I'm still struggling to pay it off. :cautious:

My surgery was done at an independent surgical center affiliated with the eye care provider, and not at a hospital per se, though, so I'm not sure that would have worked.

Good advice Marie. @KSav I'm so sorry you had to pay that much out of pocket! Having great insurance sure has saved me, My cataract/glaucoma surgeries and laser eye surgeries, also done at an independent surgical center, cost me nothing and the post op visits only $10 each (except the first was free). I've had Aetna HMO for decades and was seamlessly slid into Aetna Medicare by our state health retiree benefits department. I didn't have to start paying for my plan until I got on Medicare.

My son works for a really good company, but they have crappy insurance. Unfortunately, he has glaucoma now too and we visit the same eye doctor.. His copays are $75! He said the visual field test would cost him $600 after insurance. For me, it's just the $10 co-pay. We are supposed to have visual fields twice a year.
