Did you have fun as a kid? Do you still have fun? As kids, the majority of us probably did and fun is important for our physical and mental health.
As a kid there was a willow tree growing across the street from where I lived and my girlfriends and I would weave willow fronds into hair ornaments and pretend we were faerie princesses. This is when we weren't shooting each other dead with imaginary guns playing the Man from UNCLE. My best friend taught me how to make fire with a magnifying glass, the sun and a dry leaf. My great aunt taught me how to row a boat when I was 4 and barely able to reach the oars but it was fun. My country living cousins taught me how to build brush camps, a skill still used by survivor tv show stars. From morning until night, we were creating our own reality and enjoying every minute of it.
There were so many more options back then it seems. Being creative is still an important and enjoyable part of my life so the roots go deep here. But I consider myself lucky to have grown up when I did with so much less structure.
I don't still have as much fun as I did then because adult fun costs more and I am still recovering from the damages from the pandemic. But I love my creativity and engage in it everyday along with music and anything pleasurable from the olden golden times. What about you? Is having fun of any importance at all to you?
