Heating The House

Aunt Mavis

I have met the enemy and he is us. Pogo
When I visit Aunt Mavis she has the house heated to 75 degrees, yikes! I say “Aunt Mavis, you know you’re heating the pots, pans, chairs, carpet, drywall, beams and everything else contained in your place. Wouldn’t it make more sense for you financially and for the environment to just mostly heat yourself?” “Screw you” is her reply. Round and round we go.

If she's still this feisty, I'd be very careful not to share my views! Bet she still knows her own mind.;)
Better still, I better keep outta it!

My joints prefer the warmth but 71 is good for me. I've had to use the heat only a handful of times so far this season. I wish prices to heat our residences were reasonable again. This could cause some real suffering to many as prices rise unchecked. :(

We keep our electric furnace set on 72. We have unlimited trees, so we installed an outdoor wood furnace years ago. I usually begin using it around mid-November and keep it going until mid/late March. On an average cold Winter day, the house furnace only needs to run in the early morning hours, until I go out and add some wood. Over the years, it has saved us several thousand $'s on our electric bill....more than paid for itself.

Heating The House

Down here in town, we pretty much keep it at 65°F
Right now it's 45°F but haven't turned the heat on.....yet

I'm actually wearing clothes now
Feels odd

Heh, up at the cabin, the temps got down to the -30s°F
Cranked up the woodstove
Minutes later, tearing off clothes and considering rushing outside to do naked snow angels

Woodstoves/Potbellies throw out so much heat.

Surely Aunt Mavis, and everyone else, is entitled to heat her home any way she pleases? What suits one doesn't suit another. If you don't like it, don't visit her.

Have my room set at 75F (24C), seem to need to be warmer in my knee recovery. Just the one room, the rest of the house is about 68F (20C), normally fine for me.
Gary, that is not a bad thing, your body has gone thru a big change. While healing you will burn a lot more calories during the healing. That can make you feel chilled. Your body is responding to the surgery to help you heal. I lost about thirty pounds before and after my hip replacement.
