Hey, Californians...have

any of you been to Paso Robles, on Hwy. 101 halfway between San Fran and LA? I lived there for almost two years back in the fifties. Spent many a weekend in Pismo Beach and Morro Bay board surfing.

Yeah Pappy, I know where it is. We used to go to Pismo Beach for the Jazz Festivals and watch the Monarch butterflies

resting overnight during their yearly migration.

That is the long way to my daughters house, but I met someone online long ago that lived there.

I take the other way going north then west and then south, if I could go straight across it would save me at least an hour.

We took the original Rt. 66 after my discharge most of the way home. Back then, you could have the oil company's make a highlighted map for you. Having worked for a Texaco station, I actually found a pic of it, they mapped out my rt. Home. I still have it and like to see all the towns and sights on the way home.

We were two kids with a new baby and a 1950 Chevy woody wagon. People were so nice to us and one motel we stayed at, the owner gave us some milk and heated it up for the baby. I only have $500.00 discharge pay and had to stretch it pretty good to make it home to NY State. The year was 1958.

The owner of the station was named Swede Lund and it was located on 101. That's a 57 Chevy, so the period is right. In fact, guy doing the windshield looks like me but pic is too blurry.
