Hey, I saw this thing comin out of the sky. It had one big horn and one big eye!

OK, here we go, no more excuses! SING!

"Well I saw the thing comin' out of the sky
It had the one long horn, and one big eye
I commenced to shakin' and I said "Ooh-eee"
It looks like a purple people eater to me
It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater
(One-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater)
A one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater
Sure looks strange to me (one eye?)
Well he came down to earth and he laid in the tree
I said Mr. Purple People Eater, don't eat me
I heard him say in a voice so gruff
"I wouldn't eat you 'cause you're so tough"
It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater
One-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
One-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater
Sure looks strange to me (one horn?)
I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what's your line?
And he said, "Eatin' purple people and it sure is fine"
But that's not the reason that I came to land
"I wanna get a job in a rock and roll band"
Well bless my soul, rock and roll, flyin' purple people eater
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin' purple people eater
(We wear short shorts)
Friendly little people eater
What a sight to see
And then he swung from the tree and he laid on the ground
And he started to rock, really rockin' around
It was a crazy ditty with a swingin' tune
"Sing a bop-bop aboopa-lopa, loom bam-boom"
Well bless my soul, rock and roll, flyin' purple people eater
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin' purple people eater
"I like short shorts"
Flyin' purple people eater
Quite a sight to see (purple people?)
Well he went on his way, and then what do ya know
I saw him last night on a TV show
He was blowing it out, a-really knockin' em dead
Playin' rock and roll music through the horn in his head"

Oh yes, we used to sing this silly song when I was a kid. I also liked his song called, "That's My Pa" about a drunk father coming home while the singer and his little brother, Skit, was waiting outside. I also remember seeing where his ashes are interred. They are in the Hendersonville Memorial Gardens along with Johnny Cash, June Carter, Merle Kilgore, Luther Perkins and some of the other members of the Carter Family. If you want a nice, old fashioned smile look at this video. Sorry all you politically correct cause this video is politically incorrect (just the way I like it). I am also glad that when I was young there were so many great instrumental hits. How many remember? Zorba the Greek, Never on Sunday, Sail Along Silvery Moon, Theme From A Summer Place, Wheels, The Happy Organ, Last Date, Wonderland By Night, Alley Cat, Midnight in Moscow, Baby Elephant Walk, Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White, Java, A Walk in the Black Forest, The Pink Panther Theme, The In Crowd, Moon River, Red River Rock, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and I could go on and on. Can't seem to remember one good instrumental worth remembering in the last 30 or 40 years.

We can all be grateful that the Purple People Eater channeled his carnivorous tendencies into performing Rock-‘n’-Roll music. There’s a lesson here to be learned for all of us, or maybe not, but it was fun! Soon with the advancing season, we’ll be having Monster Mash revivals! 😱
