Hi Fred

Moving is always very stressful. If you have a good relationship with your daughter and grands, it will be less so.

I wish you the best and don't forget to tell us all about it.

Welcome-Laptop-Picture.gif to the forum Fred.

Yes as Radish Rose just said it's a very stressful time moving home especially as we get older, but as I'm in London, I haven't any idea if the life style of WV and Colorado is very different and maybe you're a little bit wary of that too..
However, I wish you luck I'm sure you're daughter and family will help, but we're all here (mostly in the USA) to help with any questions you might have about your move. We also have members who are in Colorado, and Virginia too...

Welcome Fred!

Certainly 1400 miles is a long move, but it isn't something that hasn't been done successfully by many, many others. What specific things about the move have you concerned?

At the current time I have 45 days for the buyer to get approved for a loan and then 60 days to get out. My concern now is throwing stuff out and whether to have an estate sell or pay to have the furniture moved. So little time & so much to do! Any thoughts for me? Thank you everyone!

Welcome Fred, good luck with your move, sounds very good to me. :) Take the furniture you love with you, and leave the rest behind, sell it or discard it.

First thought: Having a good plan and managing your time well over the next 105 days is going to be very important (but you already knew that).

The wife in I moved and downsized four years ago. Our move this time was only 50 miles, but we had made several much, much longer moves earlier in our lives. The process is quite similar regardless of the distance.

Regarding your "stuff", your primary options are to throw away, give away, donate, sell, or move. Those are obviously personal decisions and you'll likely do some of each. In my experience a major move can be a great time to pare down your belongings if there's a lot.

How much "stuff" are you looking at? A 5000 sq. ft. house where you've lived for 40 years? A 1200 sq. ft. condo that you moved into two years ago?

Do you already have a permanent home lined up in Colorado or will you be renting?

Welcome from Houston. I am 71 and was thinking of doing the same. However the medical facilities where I would like to live are not available so be sure any medical concerns you have are addressed. As far as "stuff" I am doing that even though I an not moving now. If I do not love something, it is being donated, sold or thrown away. The Salvation Army will pick up stuff if you tell them what you have. The kids have been told to get what they want and they have.

HI Fred welcome aboard to this friendly site

:rose::wave: Hi Fred. You will LOVE Colorado! Below is a photo of Denver's City Park with the Rockies on the horizon. The Science Museum and Zoo are there. My daughter lived there until recently. I took walks around this lake because she lived a short block from it. She took me to visit Estes Park to the north and through Estes to the Rocky Mountain National Park...spectacular mountain scenery and saw lots of Elk.

I agree with everyone here. Some of our possessions are like old friends that we'll miss if we don't take them. Keep those. Let go of the rest. As you look around say to yourself, "Are you an old friend? Will I miss you if I leave you?"
