I just lost my job at 65, because of the crash of '08 I am left with 90'000 dollars to my name and a 4200 dollar a month income. i rent from my daughter for 1250 a month and am feeling a bit hopeless. Not to bring anyone down LOL but I don't know what to do. Jobs are slim. I am in decent health and so is my wife. So i will sit by and copy the mail and see how you folks do it. Nice to meet you all.

I glad you're here. I can relate. I retired from teaching (sort of burned out) and stayed on four years part time. Then I drove a flower van all around to nearby cities over the roads here in Va. and then when '08 hit, the flower businesses went down hill. Then I took a part time job with a retired friend who was flipping and remodeling houses and then renting them out. But as I grew older, painting, chalking, and working on roofs became too much. He also hired younger Mexican workers who could work circles around me, and in my late 60's, I knew I had to quit. I guess I'm doing o.k. now, just getting by and making do.

THANKS exweehe.... everyone says you need a million dollars to retire, don't see that happening,,lol

Bobby B - you are probably way ahead of the average retiree. If you had a big ol' pile of cash instead of your $4200 monthly income and wanted to turn the cash into a monthly income, you would need about $800,000 to buy the $4200/month annuity. Stated another way, your monthly income really represents an $800k asset.

Feel better now?
