Our young grandchildren will be starting off to school. I had to have this song on my FB, "The Halls of Ivy" song by the Lettermen. Even though it's directed to college thymes, we had a elementary school in Waterville,Ohio that was covered with ivy. It was so awesome. And I could connect with the college scene. Or Mom dragging us to college campuses to the bookstore. It was a bore at times, but knew what, "Footnotes" were.:love_heart:

Welcome from Scotland, Marley! I've had a couple of vacations in Bonita Springs.

Thank-You for your warm invitations. I've been to Scotland, and England (1971) It was a special trip for mom. Our tour was canceled, but we went out on our own. Booked tours at a London hotel. Frames and Wallace-Arnold. Mom loved pawn shops. The family had to watch her because on an incident that happen in Toledo, Ohio. She visited her favorite shop, and was in the back of it. When there was a big fencing raid going on. Men were brought out in cuffs, mom behind them. It was all over the evening news pictures and all. What was funny were the reactions of family members,
dad in particular. What do I have to do? Bail her out....The police brought her home. Didn't have to ride a streetcar.

I went back for a visit...

Welcome Marley from Ohio. :)

2011 I went back for a high school class reunion. It was our 50th. There were 5 small towns, that were consolidated into our high school, Anthony Wayne High School. We were 12 miles from Toledo, Ohio. None of my boys live in the area. One Michigan, second one Washington DC. I was widowed when the youngest one was 2 yrs. old. We moved to Harlengen Texas, where we had a house built when husband was alive. The S&L debacle happen and the S&L banks were locked down, people couldn't get their money. Armed guards in front of them. I pulled out what we had. Took a loss on selling our house and just left. Then to Naples, Fl. my brother in law thought it best to move to Naples. The youngest is all into computer electronics. There were no jobs in that line here in Naples. He moved to New Mexico and has lived there 11 yrs. He just moved back to Naples, Fl. because it's gone tech. And growing leaps and bounds. Thank-You for the warm welcome. "Beautiful Ohio":love_heart:

Hi Marley!

We liked the beaches at Bonita Springs. In fact better then Vanderbilt beach in Naples. This whole area is growing, we had seasons when the visitors were coming. Many could expect a short work week. It doesn't run true anymore. Ones who come stay, buy houses or condos. lol The joke back in the 80's was Naples was going to connect with Miami. Almost the Everglades National Park separates us. And sensitive areas like the strands that have endangered species. I love going to Everglades City for a get-away weekend. The restaurants serve up a nice grouper and alligator tail bites, dinner. One restaurant serves rum coconut cake. If you couldn't find a recipe that didn't have rum in it, it wouldn't be Everglades City. A kick back to the "rum runners of the 1920's". Thank-You for the warm welcome.

Hi Marley. Welcome from Pa. Lived in Fla. for 2 years and had one of our 2 daughters in Jacksonville. I am a newbie here myself and hope you enjoy it as much as I do. One thing I am discovering, it is very addictive. Hope to see you around.

Hi SeaBreeze, Thank-You for the warm welcome. I'm watching the cartoon movie, "Hotel Transylvania" for the zillion time. Love hearing the actors & actresses voice the monsters. Adam Sandler, Fran Drescher, Kevin James. I love seeing how much animation has changed over the years. My youngest son was so excited when the movie, "Nightmare Before Christmas,"came out. It was the first full feature animated movie that was computerized. "Kids...Will Keep You Young At Heart". Like my little neighbor boy tells me. "It Gets Gooder and Gooder". :love_heart:

Thank-You and already feel much at home. I haven't been on a forum in a very long time. Yahoo had a general chat room, but for some reason changed their format and couldn't find it. But Jacksonville Fl. baby and all. WOW. When I do leave the state which takes a good six hrs. from Naples. It's usually west to Mobile Ala. I have a few relatives who live there. When growing up and we would visit. Cousins would tell me to beware of Baldwin Co. guys. And married my husband from Baldwin Co. Silverhill, Ala. in of all places Toledo, Ohio. They never let me forget it. Yes I hope to we see each other, and can see it's addictive lol.:love_heart:

We went to Florida 3 years in a row in Dec or Feb - 2002-04. The first two were to Matlacha, the third one to Bonita Springs. Perfect weather and gorgeous for kayaking or canoeing or bicyling. Discovered later that two of my cousins live in Naples. Wish we'd known when we were there!

I lived in Jacksonville from 1960-64 (navy brat).

Thank-You for your warm welcome. When living in Toledo, the winters were awful. One saying was, "Yep..Gotta Watch Out For those New York, North Easters." And no joke tended , we did watch when the wind would whip down Lake Erie. Smack into Sandusky/Toledo. I don't regret making the move to Fl. And if it's a bore like me & son found out at times, be a tourist for a day. Do tourist fun stuff.:love_heart:

My neighbor was from the town of Lewiston, Maine. His two daughters (twins) were sheriffs in Naples. When we would watch "Murder She Wrote," Id ask him all sorts of question about Maine. Laughing, he would say, I bet you only like the show because of the beautiful scenery? "Got That Right." My late husband loved all the Steven King books, and movies....Thank-you for your warm welcome:love_heart:

Texas.....Where two of my grandchildren live. I loved Lubbock Texas where Texas Tech is. Also because of being such a Buddy Holly fan, (more so then Elvis). I had a g-aunt who lived by the Alamo in San Antone. Her property had fig trees. During the winter holidays we would get jars of pickled figs. Thank-You for the warm welcome:love_heart:

Welcome from Oregon, Marley. My parents used to take week long deer hunting trips when I was a kid. I'd get my assignments from school and had to turn them in when I got back from the trip. Hunting - I never wanted to kill anything. But I remember the camping trips with my family fondly.

Wow, that must have been something to go to a 50th high school reunion! I know where Toledo is, West of where I live in Lakewood that is not far from Cleveland. I've lived in Ohio all my life except for a few months in California long ago. You've had lots of adventures from Ohio to Florida. Glad you joined and look forward to having more conversation. :eek:nthego:
