I got one of those high dose flu shots today, and my arm hurts like hell. Throbbing and hurting all night, which is why I'm on this forum at 4:40 in the morning. I haven't been able to sleep because of the throbbing and pain. I also got one of the new pneumonia shots in the other arm, and it is a bit sore, but NOTHING like the other shoulder.

I've never had this experience with the flue shots I used to get. A little soreness some times, but nothing like this.

Anyone else had pain with the high dose flu shot? It's the one recommended for people over 65, and I think it is new this year.
 

I had the high dose flu immunization today. No sore arm.
However, within two hours I developed headache, muscle pain and fatigue.
I took some acetaminophen and felt better.
Once the med wore off the symptoms came back along with chills and a fever of 100.2
I read about the reactions and although it is rare, those problems do occur.
So it means my body is producing antibodies.
Hope your arm is much better now.
 
I also had both the high dose flu and the pneumonia shots around 10:00 yesterday morning at the Homeland grocery store pharmacy and by 3:00 p.m. I was having the same symptoms as Carol, along with the arm soreness.

Around 6:30 p.m. I got the chills really bad and was actually shivering, I went to bed around 7:00 and had mama pile a couple extra blankets on me and around 10:00 I woke up sweating.

It's about 2:45 a.m. now and I've been up for about an hour......sore arms, light headache, stuffy, feel tired and my eyes ache but to be honest those symptoms were present last night but have decreased somewhat in intensity.

I've always taken the flu shots and other than a little bit of a sore arm I've never experienced what I am yesterday and now........I don't know, maybe it was just the combination of having both shots at once and the high dose flu vaccine.

On the bright side the two shots came to $238.00 and after checking her computer the pharmacist said I was 100% covered for both shots under Medicare and there would be zero out of pocket.
 

According to what I've read, compared to the regular dose, the high dose is supposed to be 24.2% more effective on people 65 and older.
 
The after affects are over.........Tylenol and 24 hrs. did the trick.

I can hardly wait till next year when it's time for another flu shot.
