High school band concert

We attended a high school band concert last night. My grandson plays the trombone and my granddaughter is in the Color Guard. Her team performed their routine to Let it Snow. such graceful young ladies, and one young gentleman.

But the band! There were several groups, including a jazz band, a wind ensemble, an orchestra, and a symphony. Probably well over a hundred kiddos altogether . And they sounded great! I was surprised at just how good they sounded, with no obvious mistakes. Dave and I really enjoyed the songs, including the Overture from Polar Express, and something called Minor Alterations, which was a medley of Christmas tunes, but played in a minor key. An interesting and unusual piece.

The band director seemed like He genuinely cared about the kids. He certainly brought out the best in them, musically. But bless his heart, he needs a better tailor! And a pair of suspenders! Right before he raised his baton, he’d hike up his pants a couple times. The suit didn’t fit well at all. I wanted to volunteer to hem his pants, which sort of puddled around his ankles. I know he can’t afford a bespoke suit on a band director’s salary, but he needs a stylist! Not trying to be mean. He’s done a great job with the kids, which is what counts, after all.

I miss those days, my son was a trumpet player. He still can but he doesn't pick it up often anymore. Loved marching season!!
