A high shool track meet turned into a hockey game in which a girls relay runner hit a competitor in the head with a baton. The victim suffered a concussion.

Virginia high school track star attacked by baton-wielding opponent during state title race

Things got dicey when a runner attempted and started their pass of another. The offender was disqualified. The victim might have a fractured skull.
I've had with this teen violence of the day. Charge them as an adult and incarcerate them into an adult prison. Let's see how tough these punks are when not among innocent victims for the most part but bunched together with their own.

I'm hoping/praying for a full and speedy recovery for the young lady who was attacked. As for the attacker, I hope/pray that she gets the help she needs for her mental problems/lack of impulse control, which will rightly include appropriate punishment.

Oh, I know of several attacks on players and officials.

The last one was not too long ago at an indoor sports complex during a basketball game. The official called a foul on a player, which the coach didn’t like and he came out on the floor to argue the call, which when he came onto the floor, he was charged a technical foul, so he punched the ref in the face,

Police were called to the scene and placed the coach under arrest. I didn’t follow the case. In Pennsylvania, we have laws that should protect game officials. The punishment is set at a maximum of a $10,000 fine and 5 years in jail. If I find time, I will look up the outcome and report it back here.

I watched video and listened to the " excuse" but it was clear what she did .... she had to lean forward to hit the other runner.
It was a deliberate movement. Why are so many NOT aware video is everywhere and exposes her as a liar as well.

It is worse IMO to attempt such a laughable excuse... too many of these young people have no sense of consequences at all....
Bad parenting that never let kids learn how to lose gracefully in sports or games and learn to control their anger.

I see these things and wonder if they realize how this or other stupid moves can follow them in life........ that any background check etc will see a conviction ( this was very clear cut) could possibly hold them back from jobs etc .....

People should be taught to think this through...... was this action worth possible future issues/ jail time/ cost of defense lawyer/ arrest and possible conviction record is worth this tantrum .

i am sure as this was relay...... this stains all her teammates as well. Funny no coach facing up to the lack of sportsmanship in their team.

Systemic problem in our schools!! Kids are not learning - many are well below grade level. Sorry, but the FINGER has to be pointed directly at the TEACHERS!! And the teachers are not teaching, not sure what they are doing in class every day, but clearly not teaching. The teachers have the direct, day to day, contact with the students. And then the school administration for not demanding more from the teachers. And I have done my share of teaching - in the military, in college, in the business world.

I think that dynamic varies by family. In this case the young lady's mother as said that "my baby" would never do such a thing and didn't need to see the video. I'm guessing "my baby" has been given a free pass on everything her entire life by her parents.

The other issue is they (parents) are expecting a large amount of NIL money for her when she goes to college, and it is a risk right now. Follow the $$$.

while Teachers and coaches can help.......but in reality a kid with no sense or responsibility falls on parents/ guardians

a teacher may have for one year or even one class at the high school age how much can they change in child in that time ?...

Many could care less about if the kid is without any sense of right or wrong or responsibility......that will not be their problem when year is up.

IMO, we are at a crossroads where juveniles should be treated the same as an adult when they commit felonies & certain misdemeanor crimes. Too many kids know that when they turn 18 they can get a clean slate while having gained the knowledge of how to better commit these offenses along with the experience of the ins-and-outs of going through criminal court.

We are way past allowing juvenile records to be expunged or sealed once the offender reaches the age of 18. Each state is different as to what or how they do it.

This link give you an idea how it's done in Ohio: Sealing and expunging juvenile records . You may be able to find something like this site for your own state.

There is no question that parents play an essential role, but are some of you suggesting that all parents across the entire nation are the reason the scores are so bad today? That means parenting does not exist and every child is essentially on their own. I can't buy that argument.
