Hit and run accidents worldwide

There has been a drastic increase in the number of hit and run accidents (including those that result in fatalities) in the United States, most notably over the past decade.

I am wondering if this trend is also occurring in other countries.
 

My source is conversations with family members in law enforcement.

I was just wondering if forum members who live in other countries have noticed this trend in the countries where they live.
 

I don't doubt it. Haven't seen recent statistic though.

I'm astounded when going through parking lots and neighborhoods looking at all the new vehicles with some kind of damage. Years ago in certain areas you simply didn't drive around with damage for that long. Many look like a parking lot type accidents ie scrapes, gouges, scuffs etc, not impact damage. Some might use "the parking lot" is not a public road so why report it. But with all the leasing of vehicles now a days you would figure the driver would go out of their way to fix the damage unless they are waiting until the lease expiration gets near then fix everything at once.

Around here stop and speed limit signs seem to get hit all the time. Talked to repair crews they said it tends to be drunks frequently dragging the sign with them for a while.

I would assume insurance fraud or lack there of frequently accompanies this as well.

Certain areas or neighborhood pride does not exist. Every man and women for themselves. Still think the leasing of vehicles instead of buying has a lot to do with hit and runs. Alot of areas of the world are so new to driving I don't even think they have insurance laws yet. That video of the car pushing another car out of the way is a perfect example.
 
Hadn't thought about the role of leasing rather than owning. Good point.

As far As insurance is concerned, this I have considered as a likely influencing factor in hit and run accidents because of the legal consequences if a driver does not have it.

But what I find most curious is the increase in the number of hit and runs that result in fatalities.

My guess there are a lot dui hit & runs. We had a teacher & popular high school coach have a dui hit run(no fatalities whew) lead the police on a chase. With his political connections he got community service. You wouldn't believe the people or how vociferously they defended him. The dui is bad enough but he left the scene, a high school teacher and coach led police on a chase. That's not necessarily the alcohol either that's the true character of the man because many drugs and alcohol lower inhibitions, he wanted to run and he did. He would've made an excellent serial killer neighbor.

Most people who talk & act tough or act all prim and proper are scared weasley pieces of crap for the most part. That means they have no intention of dealing with the consequences of their act.

Also a reminder- Memorial Day a big DUI enforcement/check point holiday weekend. Drive sober, all of the time actually.

More people= more criminals

More criminals=more hit and runs
 
It is said that China is very bad because the chinese have not grown up in households that owned cars and consequently most drivers are bad.
