Not sure. It just showed up in my 'Bell' Notification Feed that this person was following me.
If you go into your profile, then the 'About' section you'll see who you are following and who's following you.

All I can find is a list of who I am following. Seems like we should be able to also see who is following us. Maybe I just don't know how to access it.

Possibly no-one is following you because your profile is inaccessible.

It's nothing to be concerned about, it's just a social media thing. It's not like the follower is reading your email or accessing your bank account.

I checked the 'About' feature in my Profile. I now have 4 people following me. Not really sure what this means but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Uh... you just did! I've noticed that when someone new signs up and immediately starts "following" people... well yeah, there's a pattern.

I've got several followers that I've never heard of...most of those haven't logged on in a couple years.

Following someone just adds them to a list on your About page (of you profile). Its a way of keeping track of usernames of members who's post(s) you have liked.
If the person you're following hasn't block their profile, you can link to their latest activity and review their recent posts.

I never could figure out what the benefit is supposed to be. I follow a few people... but there's no special notification, nothing... so I don't really know the purpose.

Your profile is set to not allow people to see it, @Trade , or I'd tell you who's following you. It says:
This member limits who may view their full profile.

That's right, it's kind of the newer version of a 'friend request', only now there's no request to approve or reject. I've seen one or two spammers join here who followed me and a dozen other people on their first day, sometimes without ever posting. They didn't last long here, spammers usually don't.
