Hoard Ice for July

Every year, meteorologists attend a seminar or two. There, in addition to learning about the latest forecasting gizmos and theory, they are given the new buzzwords and jargon for the coming year. Atmospheric River was one of a few years ago and now heat domes seem all the rage. Weather is still weather but what they call things changes...usually to the more dramatic.
 
My area is also stuck under a heat dome for the second time this year.

The humidity & dewponts are what makes these temps so brutal. I was at the barn from 6:00 AM TO 10:15AM with plenty of water, literally packed in two full trays of ice cubes, two huge barrel fans running, and a decent breeze under the overhang.

I still wanted to throw up when I got up to the house and this day was mostly cloud cover —- the lesser heat day of the rest of the week. We may see Feels Like of 105-110 toward Thursday.

I have lived here 22 years and the seasons have changed a lot since I came here. Even the people who were born and raised in this area say this weather is not what they remember growing up with.
 
In 2021 we were in a heat dome. Young birds actually fell out the trees. Those that could fly didn’t have enough water. One was leaning up against our patio door. It looked so sad. When we stirred it ran away. We were so sad then too.

That was the first and only heat dome we’ve had here. We have hot summers, nothing like this.
