Hospitals telling anorexic actress she is too skinny to treat.

I don't understand why other hospitals can't treat her. I knew someone from work whose wife suffered with this, he was very frustrated with her and worried about her. I don't know how she is today, as I no longer have any contact with him. He said she was like a walking skeleton, and when she looked in the mirror she didn't see it, she still felt she looked fat. :(

I can't believe they can't start by feeding her by IV tube. Get her fluid level up, get nutrients in her body then slowly and gradually start feeding her real food. Once she becomes strong enough to walk for a while start very light physical therapy to increase strength and bone density. It would be a gradual and slow process but I can't see why it can't be attempted.

I agree, very basic common sense there, she'd need therapy also for the mental and emotional aspects.

This does not sound at all plausible to me. Don't hospitals have a duty to accept patients, rather than let them die. The person who wrote the article did not provide any statements from either this woman's doctor or the hospitals in question. The article has a lot of information missing. If this woman has no money at all, then there must be a free clinic in the US that she can go to, rather than just be left to die. Although this is an extremely thin woman who is obviously anorexic, I find this article suspiciously flawed.

A friend of a friend was also anorexic. Several months ago, she was told by her Primary MD if she did not gain ten pounds and stop smoking he would no longer treat her. She had reached the point that she was unable to walk unassisted. She passed away last month. Made me wonder if she would still be alive, if she had been treated vs being turned away.

It almost sounds like their afraid if they treat them without eliminating the anorexia first they are afraid they'll try to lose weight all over again. Read one article that said they have to be very careful how they feed at first because if the body get too many calories it will speed up it's metabolism burning more calories than they could tolerate.

Yes, I read that as well. There are quite a few articles about her. She is trying to raise cash for treatment.

I had a friend whose daughter was anorexic - didn't get as bad as this lady, but she was extremely thin and tried to hide it with baggy clothes. At age 21 or 22 she was put into an eating disorder clinic. Her heart had stopped because all the muscles in her body had shrunk and her heart was very weak. She recovered and now she is fine and it about 44 years old and in her FB pics she looks happy.
