Houston Is Flooding Again

Every state has bad weather. Look at the torrential rains & mudslides, forest fires in Ca. When a stalled out tropical storm or cane hits the Houston area its big news...lots of people in this 10,000 sq. mile plus size city. Its real good news feed.
That only happens in outlying mountain, desert, & rural areas of CA - not in the city where I am. I've never had to evacuate in 66 years. We do have earthquakes, but I've only had minor house damage.

That's great. We've lived in this area for over 40 years and never evac'd either. Guess we can both thank our lucky stars, huh!

Same here. ... 41 years. ... watched the tropical depression evolve on TV like everyone else.

A very large area of Harris County (Houston) was untouched by Imelda, but that doesn't make the news..:)

Yep, guess we all know what makes the news, huh. Grief and troubles. Reminds me of what was said about Lady Di'...why the paparazzi came after her the most of any famous person. When interviewed, a well known one said "we call her the Princess of Sales".$$$

Now people are trying to find their cars. Around 1700 rescues were made, hundreds of cars towed. Light rain now, not from Imelda. Thank God she is gone! Lots of folks are still recovering from Harvey and now Imelda wiped them out again. I was so nervous about the water coming up under the ground like it did during Harvey. The office tried to reassure me that it would not happen this time due to precautions that were taken after Harvey. They were right but I still kept checking my carpet until the heavy rain stopped. Think I can rest easier now!

Yes, terry...think you can. Also, probably the only good thing from storms like these is how to improve drainage issues. Of course, any place in the USA that gets 40" of rain in a couple days will have issues. Only so much one can do unless you are living on top of a mountain. If you go to Vegas and take a look at those deep concrete ditches, you realize we ain't the only place that can have buckets of rain falling in a short length of time. Even in the desert it happens. I've been in hotels out there, in rooms that looked over the parking garages and have seen the water running like a river a couple feet deep or so in the driveways and into the garages.

There is one BIG problem caused by the storm ... Interstate 10 Bridge was hit by barges during the storm, and apparently now closed for some time.
Going to affect trucking across the country, and hinder business for many.
Alternate routes are not great for that type of traffic.

Yes, our maintenance man lives in Baytown and travels the feeder roads to avoid the interstate. He left early to pick up his wife from her job as they expected the feeder roads to be packed. He was going to come by before he left to pick up some items I was sending to his wife but I fell asleep. I called to apologize and he said he had to leave early as they got word that the feeder roads were already over loaded due to I-10 being closed. Also, no mail today as the post office that serves our condo had a problem during Imelda. The roof fell in and we do not know when we will have regular service. We were already having a problem with the substitute carriers. Evidently they divide our mail up between themselves and deliver ours after their regular route. So different ones at different times of day and night.

The I-10 bridge was damaged by a barge during Harvey's flood, too. It took almost a year to get it repaired, and this time the damage is worse so that traffic will be a nightmare for a long time.

Was watching that on the news, feel so bad for all of you who are going through these terrible weather disasters. Scary stuff and deadly. :(

Do you live right on the San Jac river? If so, bet you've seen that river rise over the years, huh. So have we. Not with a river but with a wild creek.

Things move on quickly it seems .... tomorrow at NRG Stadium, there will be a 'Howdy Modi' rally .... Prime Minister of India in Houston.
