How Are You And Your Child(ren) Different? How Are You Similar?

My oldest daughter always told friends that she got her creativity from me because I was always building something or other for home, family or friends. It felt good to hear this but always surprised me. To be honest she was far more creative than I am, and in a wider variety of talents.
She had far more true friends that appreciated all of her talents and personality than anyone I have ever known.

My son loves music (he grew up hearing it constantly) but we took different musical paths. I am a composer, arranger and musician (I use the term loosely), he is an audio engineer and DJ. Our paths merge in that I create the music and he uses his expertise to engineer and master my tracks. We would both be considered music producers, however. He produces for himself and others.

We are also starting to think more alike, so much so that often I'll even just be thinking about something I'd like him to do and he'll suggest it or just do it. We both also have silly, wicked senses of humor and are quick witted. We are also warm hearted people who make friends easily.

My daughter and I are extremely close and we are very similar. Her biggest interests are literature, writing , the arts ,as are mine. We enjoy the same types of films, books etc. She is an extrovert as am I. We both talk a lot!
My friends often tell me that my daughter is just like me! The funny thing is, my daughter was adopted! We are not biologically related.

My son, on the other hand; is very different from me. He is very good at mathematics. He can figure out how things work and build things. He is very computer savvy. He has social anxiety and is a recluse. His social life is conducted on the computer. He is an extreme introvert. He also has autism. He was adopted as well and I find our differences fascinating and complimentary.

It certainly makes it easier to be friends with your adult children when you are similar doesn't it?

I wrote about how my son and I are the same in reply #5. Here is how we are different:
~He will not use a microwave. I use mine almost daily.
~He can eat one meal a day, even fast for 3 - 10 days with no problem. And he's diabetic, or actually used to be.. He refused to take the medication and beat it by altering his diet.
~He prefers to buy and read books, I prefer to make use of the free books and articles online and read things using my tablet or computer.
~He's more into whole foods because he likes cooking and juicing. I eat too many prepared foods because I hate to cook. Not crazy about the juices he makes either.
~For long trips, he'd prefer to fly, while I prefer the train. I'm continuing my personal boycott of the airline industry.
~He's tall (6'2) I'm short (5'2)
