How do you stay warm? What temp is your house in winter?

I don't know if it is aging, but I feel too cold this winter (and cold weather has hardly begun). I've usually had the thermostat at 69F, but I'm thinking I've gotten too old for that setting. I'm going to try moving it up a degree at a time and see how I feel.

What temperature do you keep your home in winter? Have you had to increase it as you got older?

I have cold spots in my house like this office which has no fixed heating in it... (no radiators ).. unlike the rest of the house which has central heating radiators...

It's an old house so it has a few little draughts here and there .. so different areas need different heating..

Up here, I leave the internal doors all open from the interconnecting rooms so this office gets a little heat from there.. I vary the heating between 18 deg & 21.5 deg C.. ( 64 - 71 deg F ) depending on what I'm wearing tbh.

Today I'm wearing a lambswool sweater and sweatpants so I've felt warm all day without heating, despite it being frozen and icy outdoors...

yesterday I was wearing a chunky cotton knitted sweater and sweatpants and couldn't get warm until I had the heating at 21 deg FC

I like 70 or 71 but this year I will be cold because of the high cost of fuel/heating. So I layer up on clothing, wear knitted fingerless hand mitts and drink lots of herbal teas or warm milk and honey while hugging a heating pad. Other than going somewhere that has heat, it's all I can do. If anyone has some tried and true staying warm without central heating tips please pass them on. 🤗

Don't forget to make use of any Duvets you have Chic, and or fleece blankets to drape over you while sitting on the sofa or chair when it's really cold.
The more sitting the more likely you are to get cold.. so anyone who doesn't or can't move around too much MUST have a layer of heating on them, and a warm 13 or 15 tog single duvet is a great heat provider without spending money to heat the house.
(my daughter is a great believer in them in preference to turning the heat on )..

Another thing I do is ensure that as soon as it gets dark (4 pm currently ) I close all the blinds, and or curtains.. in every room...

Keep hydrated and warm by making your hot drink in a Vacuum Flask.. it'll save on power as well as be instantly available to keep you warm ..when needed..

I've been having serious problems with cold for the past 5 years - ever since I lost weight. I'm cold when it's under 80. Dr. says my thyroid is "Normal." While at the dentist, I was shivering so much she put a rubber thing in my mouth to bite on to keep my mouth open so she could work. When I was heavier, I used to dread summer; now I hate winter.

My thermostat lets me set different temp at various times throughout the day and night. 10pm to 6am is 65. then 69 until 6pmand it drops to 67. I also have a wood burning stove in the Livingroom that I light each morning at 6. I pour a cup of coffee, sit in front of the stove while I watch the birds at the feeder for a few minutes before slipping into the hot tub that is 102. I am looking forward to summer!

I run my heat and then turn it off. When I'm cold again, I run it. I don't know if that is considered efficient but it's what I do and I have decent bills. I'll usually turn it off again when it's in the high 60's. I'm in an upstairs apartment but I did the same when I lived in the house. The heat is not on when I'm not home. Sorry kitties.

Right now, sadly, we are about 10 degrees above average in California which I'm more sad is probably the new normal.

Being from the north, I'm familiar with the term "soft southerners' and was afraid that I might have become one with having lived in Hampshire for so long. I also remember, though without much fondness, waking up in winter with ice on the inside of the bedroom window. Dressing under the bedclothes was the done thing.

I don't really know what the temp is, as it varies a bit through the house. As long as we're comfy, the temp is OK. We don't like it too warm - in the mid 60's sounds about right. I have difficulty sleeping if it's higher (and we don't have A/C in the UK).

My apartment building is an old brick school so it is pretty well insulated. I am on the second floor and my apartment windows face another big brick building (the school gym which is a sports club for kids now) so stays pretty warm. I keep my heat between 66-72. I have been turning it up because I do not want my pet bunny getting cold and since he is on the floor it is cooler there.

I have some friends and relatives who keep their homes too hot for my liking. I also notice that some, not all, dress in tee and shorts in the winter. So I guess the latter group extends summer by raising the thermostat.

At home, I dress differently summer vs winter. Right now, I am dressed warm and comfy from shoulders to toes. The thermostat is set at 67. At bedtime, I would drop it a couple of degrees since I sleep better when it is chilly/cold.
