How do you tell if a computer is Wnidows11compatable?

My computer had its 10th birthday in Sept. And I've been getting notices that Windows will not be servicing Win10 any more. When I bought my computer, it had the most giga whatevers, etc., you could get at the time. I'm trying to figure out if my computer is compatible with Win11. Windows has an app that supposedly tells you, but it seems very confusing, with downloads, "instillations" and there's something that it can take 24 hours to do. I'm not a computer person, I don't know gigabyte from flea. Is there some simple way to tell if my computer is compatible?

Look to the right in the update settings.

I'm pretty computer illiterate. And I've followed "easy" computer instructions. After the 6th step, it'll say just click ' "Reset", and, of course, there's no frikken "Reset" there.
Can I just keep Win 10, but have paid anti virus apps.?

My computer is seven years old and isn't compatible with Windows 11. It's plenty fast enough for what I do, so I'd hate to spend money on a new computer just because of planned obsolescence.

I did a search for my CPU and a lot of people are complaining about it not being Windows 11 compatible. Maybe there will be a workaround.

Maybe time to consider an Apple machine, or continue to use your present computer by installing Linux.

That is what I am doing. I let Windows Defender take care of anti-virus stuff. I haven't had any problems with it for 6 years. :)

Macs are too expensive. I've thought about installing Linux, but you have to jump through some hoops to get software that I use to install on it. That may be the route I need to go, though. Windows 10 will supported for another 10 months. Who knows what the world will look like in 10 months! :ROFLMAO:

Chromebooks are another choice, they are less weighed down and boot up fast. I made the switch to using one in 2018 when I bought a refurbished one just to see if I would like it. There's also a bunch of videos on YouTube about Chromebooks to help get you going.

I also have a Windows Tower that's not compatible with Win 11. I don't really use it that much except to keep it updated and when those run out I'll just use it offline. Hopefully I can use it for studio work again when I have less commitments on my time.

I have Windows 11 on the laptop I bought 1 year ago, but I have a spare laptop 12 years old, still running on Windows 7 and it works fine, even though updates stopped long ago. I removed all my files in case of a security issue. I just keep it around to use for internet in case my main laptop goes down.

I'm happy with my ten year old Dell desk top. And I'm not eager to spend the bucks for a new one. I looked at that Linux site. I'm computer illiterate, and having to take classes to get the 10 basics of Linux, just ain't doing it for me..

Linux is as easy to use as Windows most of the time. You just click on an icon to open your browser or other application. Even installing new apps is pretty simple... most of the time.

Nathan I was a staunch Apple Mac user until the last time I installed an update. It completely messed things up. A friend and I joke, but are serious, that an Apple upgrade is really a downgrade. My Mac got so slow after the alleged upgrade that the "spinning beachball of death" popped up at almost every operation. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and bought a Dell, something I never thought I'd do. But I guess there are pros and cons for every type of computer.

Google Windows 11 and try to download it. Microsoft will check out your machine and you'll be told if your computer is compatible with it or not.

This laptop I'm using is Win 8.1 and it's just fine. I like it better than a crappy refurbished Win10 Dell I bought.

Mozilla Firefox is a good alternative to Linux. My PC is about the same age as yours and I had no trouble at all downloading Firefox. It has free ad blockers, virus and trojan etc security, and email server.

Never owned a laptop, never wanted one. Windows is annoying because when something is working well, they will change it. The word now is that next October they will throw windows 10 to the sharks. Firefox is a possibility or Linux.
