How Does My Garden Grow?

I was never able to have a decent garden at my other house because the large maple tress provided too much shade. This year I did plant potatoes (they're in there somewhere), and what looks like a bumper crop of grape tomatoes, to see how they would do here. There's accidentally winter squash (carnival and delicata) which likely grew from seeds I threw out for the wild animals. Also a huge nightshade bush. I did have nightshade at my other house but they were a scraggy vines growing on the north side. There's also a catnip plant in front of the nightshade that was here already, but apparently the cats around here aren't interested or it would be eaten down to the roots. The milkweed I brought from the other house never germinated.

My whole property is dry and tan colored. There is no way I can water enough to keep it green, just the fact that water is so expensive here. I have two meters, one for the house and one for the sprinklers, outside systems. The outside sprinkler system is higher. Oddly if I use an old fashioned sprinkler in the yard it is cheaper. Most of the neighbors run their sprinkler systems at night and I see so much run off to the street. May be they waste more than they use?
