How far is it? Distance from store or restaurant to my house.

I'm always saying that I live in a remote location and not near anything. Let's play a little game...you name an American national chain store or restaurant and I'll Mapquest it and tell you how far the nearest one is to my house.

For instance: McDonalds - 2.8 miles

Wow... I guess I'm farther out in the sticks than I thought. :(
Target. 84 mi.
dunkin donuts. 124 mi.
major airport. 124 mi.
whole foods. 127 mi.
Kroger. 25 mi.
Safeway. 259 mi.
Ruby Tuesdays. 61 mi.
Walmart. 23 mi.
Carls Jr. 43 mi.
MacDonalds. 25 mi.

OMG...yes! Compared that that answer, I'm fairly metro. There used to be many viable businesses locally up to 47 years ago. When the paper mill (which probably employed 80% of the local work force) went out of business in 1971, all the other businesses went with it except for a few mom & pop stores and a regional grocery. Even those small corner stores gradually melted away. People can't make money where the is no business. Now except for a Family Dollar and supermarket, a few pizza shops and other fast food, it's like a ghost town. A few years ago, I did a photo comparison of how areas looked 60 years ago to today. Here a few examples:
