How far is it? Distance from store or restaurant to my house.

Deb you live closer to everything than I do. Although I live closer than Squatting Dog. I have to go 11 miles to get a good gas station burrito and 19 miles to Wal-mart.

In all fairness, while I'm quite a distance from all of the above, it's not like I'm totally isolated. 11 miles from the house is a town of about 2000 that has a food store (a little expensive), a pharmacy, lumber yard, gas station, etc. and being a county seat, it has some government offices. dmv, court house, veterans affairs office etc. :)
We do use walmart online for a lot of food (saves on local tax and free delivery) and Amazon a lot. I like not having to go out much.

Everything I need is within five miles of my little apartment.

All of the basics are in a 1950's style strip mall within walking distance, less than half a mile.

The largest mall in NYS, 2.4 million square feet, is within 3.1 miles but I haven't been inside of it for many, many, years.

and the world is at my fingertips, gotta love the internet!!!

Pretty much everywhere that I shop is under 5 miles, too, and mostly 2 miles or less, which would be Kroger and Walmart.
We also have the usual fast food places and a couple of regular restaurants as well.
The main place that I go almost every day is the fitness center, and it is just under 5 miles away, so actually one of the furthest places I drive to.
We go to Sam’s Club about once a month, which is about the same distance away. There is a Walmart Neighborhood Market less than a mile from us, and I often go there when I need groceries.

A mile and a half to two miles for markets and small restaurants. I can walk to them really, except carrying groceries back home for that distance uphill is kind of difficult, especially in the hot sun (which is year around). There is a McDonald's, a Pizza Hut/Taco Bell, Starbucks, Burger King, and little Chinese restaurants also within those mileage areas. The only real problems are the hot sun and the uphill climbs, and I don't drive.
